Its funny actually, one thing that made me wonder was an old pic of Webber meeting Michael Schumacher... this was before Webber was a racing driver proper. Webber looked about as old as he does now ;) I don't have the pic unfortunately.

I think it's the shape of Webbers face and chin that have made him look older than he is. If he was lying about his age you'd hear people he went to school with commenting.

Really? I was born in Nov 76 & he looks at least 5 years older than me! Mind you, I do look a fair bit younger than I am.... gradually as I age it's beginning to be a good thing.

Good point. In such a day and age it would be really hard to lie about smth like that.

So what are you saying that you look 3 years younger than you are and he looks 2 years older than he is!?

I was born in 1969 and I look at least a decade younger than I am. Some of the people I went to high school with look a decade older.

People, seriously, just because someone who is younger than you looks older than you does not mean he is lieing about his age. In fact people age very differently. In addition, what some people perceive as old looking might seem young to other people.

Exactly. When you're at school there's always one guy who can always get served in a pub, he looks older. That continues through life, some people look older than others.
If you look at a close up of Webber's face, his skin does not look that bad, he could quite easily be 32.

Easier to get a seat in an F1 team if you're younger. I believe he was 25 when he started at Minardi, would he have got a chance if he was 28? Flav recently said Bourdais was too old for Renault...
But anyway, unless someone has actual hard evidence that Webber is 35, he isnt, he's 32.

Racing drivers are considering old once they reach their mid twenties, everyone is looking for a young talent to develop and exploit.

Yep, Gilles Villeneuve knocked 2 years off his age for that reason.Originally posted by Madras

Well, actually the up and coming talent is quite old:
Pantano 30 (raced in F1 when he was 25)
Paffett 28
Green 26
Senna 25
Di Grassi 24
Maldonado 24
Parente 24
Asmer 24 (had to throw him in)
di Resta 23 (in a month)
Grosjean 22
Mortara 22
Kobayashi 22
Hülkenberg 21
The first chance they have of getting into F1 is in 2010. Thus, you should add one year to their age to get the age when they potentially enter F1.
So basically, according to your theory (which I actually believe). Green et al have already missed the boat. If Senna gets into F1 he'll be 26.
How old were other guys when they got a racing seat:
Hamilton 22
Kovalainen 25
Räikkönen 21
Massa 21
Kubica 21
Heidfeld 22
Alonso 19
Piquet 22
Trulli 22
Glock 22 (reentered @26)
Bourdais 29 (entered CART @24)
Buemi 20
Webber 25
Vettel 20
Rosberg 20
Nakajima 22
Button 20
Barrichello 20
Sutil 24
Fisichella 23
Badoer 22
Klien 21
Coulthard 23
Liuzzi 23
Seems like 20-22 years of age is most common. So at the start of next year all the guys on (my) talent list will be already 23 with the exception of the Hulk... So are we seeing a shift in the teams expectations to a driver? Do they want their new drivers to have more experience? Seems like it to me.

Picture reproduction on television or in print and on the internet can make people look older.
The one think about Webber which makes me think this argument has some merit is the age of his partner Anne. She's a decade older than him, which I've always found very unusual for an Alpha Male like Mark.
Still, this argument would be pretty easy to solve. Find out which year Mark finished High School. If it is 1994 he's the Honest Don we'd like to think he is.
Another driver who lied about his age was Roland Ratzenberger. Said he was 32 when he was actually 34.

Plus the fact he has a man's jaw.
But Jarno Trulli is two years older and is really starting to look like a (nearly) 35 year old IMO.

In Estonia you are not allowed to purchase cigarettes when you are under 18. When I was still smoking at the age of 23 they kept asking to see my documents. Some months ago when I was 25 I was also asked to present documents so I could by beer (also 18 years of age required). So although, I did not mention it in this thread, if anyone would ask me if I looked younger then I am, I would say that some people definitely think I am way younger than what I really am.

Great- and what date is in his passport? I reckon the date on his birth certificate is also probably right.

And Gilles Villeneuve - who was well beyond his 30th birthday when he died - always looked like a man in his early 20ies.

FOR CHRISTS SAKE I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT RECORDS!! I'M TALKING ABOUT THE AGE DRIVERS ARE CONSIDERED TO ENTER F1. THIS IS NOT THE "YOUNGEST EVER" LIST. A FEW DAYS WEEKS OR MONTHS DON'T MATTER. I'AM NOT TRYING TO DECEIVE ANYBODY AND YOU ARE NOT A DETECTIVE WHO UNCOVERED A LIE OR A LAWYER WHO READ THE FINE PRINT THE BEST.

For what it's worth, my sister-in-law went to school with Webber from the start of high school. Lovely guy apparently, very popular. Unless he's been lieing about his age since he was 12, he's a 1976-born baby just like most of the rest of her school year.

Prepare to be challenged on this. Some way, somehow.
