I'd really love there to come an all new IndyCar game featuring realistic tracks, drivers, cars and everything necessary, just like the NASCAR series from EA. Does anyone know who owns the licensing rights, and if we can expect something in the next five years? I don't know if you remeber, but I remember a (Microsoft?) game featuring the 1997 CART season, which got me into American racing. It was incredible bad graphics, but the little child that played it is now almost and adult, and there has been no sign of something similar since the IndyCar game back in 2002/03 (as far as I remember?) Imagine an official simulation game to run the Indy 500! Oh, man how I want it! :D

There are some rumors that iracing.com might announce the addition of IndyCar to their lineup in May.

The man behind iracing.com is David Kaemmer who previosly released IndyCar Racing, IndyCar Racing II and GPL when he was at Papyrus

You really can't beat the CART mods for rFactor, absolute brilliance.

rFactor does indeed have many mods for Indycars. The 1994-95 one is the best imho, but there is about one for each year since 1999. And there is a gorgeous 1984 one cooking I think :).

You can do worse than check out the original (as oppose to the sequel) Indycar game by Codemasters on PS2. It's ovals only unfortunately as it's from around five years ago, but if you tinker with the AI settings a bit you can get a decent challenge out of it. The sensation of speed is fantastic. If you have a PS2 lying around you should be able to find this on ebay or in the used section of a games shop cheap enough. Don't be tempted to buy the sequel though, it's hideous.

There was a CART game on Sega Dreamcast many moons ago (name forgotten) and despite having some fairly ropey 'racing' in it the game did offer some stunning graphics for the time and it was nice to be able to have a good drive around the CART tracks of the day...

I remember about four years ago an all new CART game was announced, although I don't recall who the developer was. It never made it to release, but I'd have loved to get my hands on it.

I think it'll be a long time until a legit Indycar game turns up, you'll have to stick to old games with mods/patches/whatever, although I personally can't be arsed with all that. Give me a console anytime, only snob PC gamers look down on them.

The Champcar game that was announced a few years ago was going to be developed by iDT. The deal fell through and they eventually released everything as a free mod for rFactor.

I really hope iRacing come through with something IRL & Indy. It's the perfect sort of series for that game.

In hindsight I reckon CART Precision Racing was far far better than we gave it credit for. It may have beeen more realistic than gamers where comfortable with at the time.

There also is a mod for NASCAR2003 for IRL and CART/CCWS racing. ICR2 or CART racing, which is older than dirt still is fun too, with mods and all that too.

I've heard about a league called Zimdycar, I just checked out their website and looks like they have a pretty good Indycar league going. I will probably try it out some time. I'd love to see games made specifically for IndyCar. iracing is nice but I hate monthly payments, way overpriced for just one game.

I have played Indycar Series on the original X-Box. Edge Magazine also gave it a decent rating.

It is quite plain and boring but I had a lot of fun drafting and pit stop strategy. Actually, its almost impossible to control the brakes, I just did super speedways.

Indy Car 09 mod for Rfactor just came out last week :) Havnt raced it much but the car models are excellent. Take care on your first few laps, no tyre warmers in Indy Car!

Well, iRacing have finally announced that they have the IRL onboard with both the Dallara Indycar and Indylights being featured. Also, of course, is Indianapolis itself where they'll hold a virtual Indy500 next may to go hand in hand with the real event.

Their IMS model looked incredible, and the setup options on the IRL car are overwhelming.

What little we've seen, yes - didn't get to see down the back end of the car to know if there are diff options like in the Lotus but the quick shots of the front straight at IMS look spot on - as you'd expect. Should be great fun.
