Manager of Fangio, or was he? Race promotor in Argentina, writer of Fangio biography that contained some blunt statements. Who knows more on him? Any pictures of the man?

What I know of Marcello Giambertone ?

He was once a track official at Monaco . It was he who supposedly put a chalk mark on the track where Fangio had went through a turn , and noticed Fangio hit the same mark lap after lap .

He also raced himself , competing in the Mille Miglia at least a few times that I know of , in the early 50's .

I'm pretty sure he was actually Fangio's buisiness manager . He and Alesandro De Tomaso made an appeal over the radio when Fangio was "kidnapped" by Cuban rebels .

He and Juan became involved with the Formula Junior series along with Vittorio Stanguellini . He attempted to start a series for the cars , which if I recall was at least partly successful . I believe this was in the late 50's , after Fangio had retired , or around the same time .

That's about all I can remember .

Marcello Giambertone was Fangio`s business manager and wrote the book MY TWENTY YEARS OF RACING together with him. Beside Fangio he had Maria Theresa de Filippis and Gino Munaron under contract.

Giambertone also had his own race organization ORGANPRIX that most acted in South- and Latin America, supporting race events. He was also srecretary of SCUDERIA MADUNINA from Milan/Italy that bought some Maseratis from the Factory for entries in South- and Latin America. Also he was closely connected to SCUDERIA GUASTALLA from Milan/Italy.

I was told that he died in the 1980ies.

Yep, I have a very nice photo of him and Fangio (...but unfortunately still unable to upload it here!).

Ciao!
Walter

Congratulations, you seem to be well prepared about my grandfather :-)
He passed away at the end of the 70s, well before Fangio.
I met this thread by chance, while searching a quote about him on an article that was published today; anyway, it's nice finding people interested about him!

Welcome to TNF Paolo. Please tell us more that you know about your late grandfather... Was he Italian born? Was his background in the motor trade, or in sport or some other form of industry or commercial undertaking? How did he link up with Fangio? And how did their relationship end?

Yes, he was Italian born. While very young, he moved with his family from Sicily to Milan, and spent quite a lot of years in the motor sports realm; as I know, he did very few racing, but not in a professional perspective. Just think that Monza circuit is very few miles far from Milan, and amatorial racing had its group of followers. After Fangio retired from F1, they remained in touch, for business and personal relationship.

Obviously, I don't have all the details: my father knows much more, I'll ask him!

Hello Paolo!

And Monza 1956? Did he ever meet Ferrari? What was his exact agreement with Fangio as manager/advisor?

Coco (Walter Baeumer) has notified me of the attached photo in the Getty archive, showing Giambertone (alongside Alessandro de Tomaso) while broadcasting an appeal to Fangio's kidnappers.
