We all know what happened that weekend. A horrifying crash took away the sport's next star, Francois Cevert. I was browsing the web and happened to come upon this photo of what looks to be his crash, up close and personal. I was wondering if anyone would be able to confirm that this is indeed his October 6, 1973 crash that took his life. And more importantly, where on earth is Francois?

Found this on a spanish site and translated it
François CEVERT (1944 - 1973) up-to-date France 150807 for Marisol, that the 1 was born from August of 1966 " You will not avoid, beloved, my mementos, nor you will manage to do that I forget of your gesture, your voice, your theatricalities. And memory, in addition, a smile, a word, a glance, a caress. Your hand, something rough, it was velvet. The fire of your eyes he will be eterno." (of " A Caricia") Promising and charismatic pilot of formula l, been born in Paris like Albert-Fran1cois Cevert the 25 from February from 1944 and died Saturday 6 of October of 1973, when he trained for XV the Grand Prix the USA with a Tyrrell 006-Ford Cosworth DFV V8 on the circuit of Watkins Glen. Test, that it was going to be a celebration for the Tyrrell equipment (celebrating the probable victory of the one of its cars and world-wide title obtained already by Jackie Stewart, for that was going to be his 100º Grand Prix), became an inconsolable duel. Unbearable sorrow in Watkins Glen 1973. The Prince of Formula One no longer will return with us. Ken Tyrrell, Jean-Pierre Beltoise, Jose Rosinski and Gérard Crombac do not finish it believing (file J. Rosinski) The single-seater of Fran1cois immediately left rectum in the double curve that precedes to the longest straight line of the 210 circuit and the right of the footbridge crashed to Km/h against sharpened guard-raila, bouncing towards the one of the left, which caused a mortal wound in the throat to the infortunado pilot and divided its Tyrrell in two. In the Grand Prix of Canada, two weeks before, one had injured both feet in a serious accident; but its professionalism took to him, in spite of the pain, to try in Watkins Glen a few additional fast returns to verify the angle of attack of the ailerons when they only lacked six minutes for the end of the second session of tests. The pilot who followed Fran1cois, Carlos Grazes, stopped his Surtees TS14A-Ford Cosworth DFV V8 nº 10 before the wreck and, gradually, they would do the same the following. Many years later, the testimony of an eyewitness adds precious data, sometimes contradictory, although without getting to clarify the mystery. David M. Kane arrived at the place of the accident shortly after the same, but when already Denny Hulme did discouraged indicating theatricalities of which it was not any hope, while Jody Scheckter returned to its car owned by the desperation. The accident was horrible (Quiroz file and of tdk.fameflame.dk) Kane explains that Cevert saw exultante and in the heat of forms physics that one day (what reveals that the wounds of their feet were not so serious), that lead with an unusual aggressiveness (mainly, considering that were one third session of tests) and that, shortly before the accident, had undone the helmet (to perhaps vomit), which indicates that it felt suddenly uncomfortable or ill. But, then, why one did not pause? (Quiroz file) It will never be known with certainty what it happened to Cevert or its Tyrrell that one noon to him when negotiating the Esemaldita. By all means, its death caused forfaitdel rest of the equipment (Stewart and Amon) and accelerated the retirement of the competition of its companion and friend, the multichampion Jackie Stewart. The same Stewart that would make a brief one but given prologue (Fran1cois, Mon frère…) for the book that Cevert was preparing and for that it had taken many notes and notes. Nevertheless, his brother-in-law Jean-Pierre Beltoise decided to run the test in BRM P160E V12 nº 15 like tribute to Fran1cois. Beltoise and CEVERT were relatives. Until then, Fran1cois never had suffered an accident that it injured to him of gravity. The Tyrrell equipment (Stewart and Amon, besides CEVERT) did not appear in the grill of the race, that gained Peterson (© To pave and of " L' Automobile")
