Probably with some obscure sporting trial from Halneker Chalk Pits, some ice racing from Arvidsjaur, or some slot racing from Kilton Park :)

This of course is the point where BBC Grandstand Rallycross championship with 6 live visits to Lydden Hill and other venues set in deep mud and freezing snow ought to be starting and running every Saturday afternoon through to March !.

Feet up in front of a roaring log fire and hot buttered crumpets !! Marvelous

Or of course The Millennium Shed.

Kilton Park is, actually, the Millenium Shed "on tour", Rob, as readers of the TNF Northern Pie and a Pint thread will be aware.

I think Simon deserves particular praise for the fact that while most of the snappers trackside use equipment that can only be purchased if you are prepared to re-mortgage your house............ he has all season used the same camera with a single 18-250 lens.

Which says to me he has a considerable amount of natural talent in the photographic department :)

Blimey...

Thanks to all for the generous comments (even though I'm not sure who Aaron might be). And for your information, Mr Hinton, I have just returned from Abu Dhabi to be greeted by a feast of hot buttered crumpets for tea - very welcome, as it is about 7degC outside, rather than the 37 to which I've been accustomed for the past day or four.

Last weekend marked my 11th in succession at a racetrack (Valencia F1, Spa F1 & Oulton Park Gold Cup, Oulton Park 750MC, Monza F1, Goodwood Revival, Singapore F1, Suzuka F1, Silverstone MSVR, Interlagos F1, Silverstone 750MC/Birkett Six Hours and Abu Dhabi F1), so I might now take a break, although that doesn't mean I won't post a few pictorial highlights from the campaign just past.

Not sure what the winter will bring, photographically, unless there are any obscure French hillclimbs worth attending, although doubtless I will be taking some wildlife snaps...

I know this thread has technically ceased to be, but... Many of my Brazilian pictures were initially unusable, because I had specks of dust on my sensor and no corrective software,. but that has since been resolved...

Nothing nicer, or more English for afternoon tea Simon !

We could always put hot buttered crumpets on the menu for the January Film Show ?

Nasty, but there is a cure.

That particular angle of shot illustrates how similar all the cars are in profile, and how they are essentially all just mobile advertising hoardings. I'm sure that they would be asthetically more pleasing if they were in team / national colours but that will never happen as that's what pays for 'em, so I think I'll stick to historics. :well:

Not really, especially this year the differences quite distinct. Force India and BMW do both have a particularly high nose though, making them look similar in these shots. It's about trained eyes really, kids born in the nineties would say the same about the F1 class of say '64.

and how they are essentially all just mobile advertising hoardings

...it's been like that for fourty years already :)

I would have to agree on both counts; my eye simply isn't trained to recognise the nuances of modern day F1, of which there are doubtless many which is why there are performance differentials.
To my eye, in the early days of sponsorship it was simply an advert on the car, but today the car IS the advert. You could argue that GLTL & JPS were the forerunners of this I suppose, but it took the others a while to catch on, especially in Europe.

True, it has been getting worse. There are rules stippulating the size of the airbox and oversized wing end plates. Weird that a governing body would set rules like these really.

Some more so than others...

Given the news released yesterday that Mercedes are undertaking a majority buy-in of Brawn and the new management appear to be leaning towards a line-up of drivers with links closer to home has Jenson Button been dealt a pretty rough hand by the Brawn/Mercedes management.

He took a 50+ % plus reduction in his contract - reportedly paid his own travel costs and driving suit laundry costs - wins the world championship(s) along with Rubens thus guaranteeing Brawn a healthy reward from Mr Ecclestone in performance fees, yet when it comes to negotiating a new contract is denied recognition in salary terms what he has rightly earned.

Yes, there is a recession and times are hard but that young man - and others - risked life and limb to help revitalise F1 in 2009. Given the remarks / response from Nick Fry it seems to me that he is almost being frozen out by Brawn. There are obviously a number of individuals with Brawn who will benefit very from the Mercedes buy-in.

This is hardly the right treatment for a job well done.

The car was the star this season though. Jenson has made a ton of money out of that team over the years, for several he was paid well in excess of his market value so if anything he's still on a net profit. There simply isn't the kind of money sloshing around these days to pay the big bucks unless you are a 'name' driver, and Button simply isn't.

Even Raikkonen is sitting on the sidelines presently as his demands are too high.

Belated thanks to Simon for the excellent pics from this season - especially creditable given the lack of ultra long lens.

I was wondering though, do you come up with the caption to match the photo, or have you got the caption rolling around your mind whilst you're looking for the right photo opportunity?

The pictures happen as a consequence of luck rather than judgment. Captions then tumble out slightly randomly. Absolutely no science is involved.

Just read back through this thread (I say just, I've been doing it on and off all afternoon). Just like to thank Simon for the fantastic pics, I forgot this thread existed after the first couple of races, but a read back through shows that I shouldn't have.
