Hi guys,

I hope you can help me out - I have been unable to get an answer from the boys who run Snetterton, and so I have come here for help. Basically, I run a 250cc Superkart and will therefore be in the 28th June BARC Club Car Champs at Snetterton, and I have just bought a small bullet cam to run on my Kart. My question is, is this allowed or do I have to seek permission/pay? I couldn't find an option on the entry form (which goes through the British Superkart Racing Club), and I haven't had an email reply off the Snetterton guys.

If you know the answer then please help us out!

Incidentally, if anyone goes to the event then come have a word with us - I am racing a blue/black #20 250cc Superkart. :)

I can't see why you would. You're probably not using it for commercial use (ie to sell the footage) so it's really none of their business as long as it isn't mounted unsafely.

Well that's the thing, I remember sructineers asking me at Thruxton if I had any cameras or if I had any intention of putting them on the Kart, because the track holds the rights to its image or something...

You're not, supposed, to use cameras at the Nordschleife either. Best thing to do is telephone and ask rather than rely on an e-mail. It'd harder to hide a camera on a kart than a road car as well.

If you do film anything and upload it, come here and give us the url if it works out. Wouldn't mind seeing any footage.

Will do, I have a youtube address (see sig) so anything I do capture will definitely be uploaded! :)

Some tracks around here have an exclusive deal with a commercial photographer. In other words only that company may SELL video and photos from that track. Private stuff is fine.

My main concern when teching bikes with cameras is how secure the mounting is. Do a track walk some time and you're bound to find bits of cams and DVR's laying just off track. Perhaps this is what the tech guys were getting at when they asked you.

Did some capture at Snetterton but I was forced to sign a form which said that MSV were entitled to charge me £25000 if I, and I paraphrase, "sold or reproduce any images captured in the public domain." I am going to call them up tomorrow to see if youtube is OK. If it is, expect to see the vids uploaded tomorrow!

I'd say YouTube would be fine, so long as you're not making money off it.

I have noticed that in a lot of Final Instructions that I receive for meetings they do say that you you take take any photography from around the spectator areas and pits but you need to request permission to use on board cameras.

I'm sure it's a financial thing and as long as you're not compiling a bunch of onboards to make an entertainment or instructional vid you'll be fine.

Get caught charging for the content and you're banned from the track and/or sued, I imagine.
