I'm fed up with those endless motorcycle racing mystery pics.... let's look at a real men's sport for a change, soccer ( or football as we say on the continent ) Who do you spot in those two pictures from Jean-François Baldé's private archives, borrowed from the Bike 70 website of my friend Francis Boutet.

I say, not too bad folks, you've got most of them I guess - apart from a few froggies :

Posted Image

Indeed Johnnny Cecotto in black ( glory days of "moulding" t-shirts and tight-assed and wide-legged jeans ! ) , Kenny Roberts in the white tracksuit, then with the open shirt my friend Pascal Renaudat ( but I'm not surprised nobody knew him ) , then an unknown, of course Gregg Hansford with the Kawasaki sweat-shirt, Gérard Choukroun in the background and it's Christian Huguet running away with the ball, not Jon Ekerold . Sadly, the last three not with us any more :(

Posted Image

Renaudat again far left, then I don't know wether it's Uncini or not, but I feel that it may be Alain Terras with the Total t-shirt partly hidden behind, then Jean-François Baldé, Cecotto again in the distance , the small fellow in black is a young Christian Le Liard, Kenny again in the distance, and yes, I think that's Jeff on the right , maybe he'll confirm if/when he sees this.

As to the "where", the picture is captioned as Hockenheim and although I've never been there, the trees seem to make sense. As to the "when", I believe it's '78 , based upon the riders present - I think it's a F 750 race, since most of the french riders pictured ( Renaudat, Le Liard, Choukroun, Huguet ) were not on the Grand Prix circus at those times - and 78 is the only year when Roberts did the whole 750 season . And the German GP was at the ring in 78 . .... I can't be more precise but I just "feel" that it's 78 . But I've also been proved to be wrong ( not as often as Mr Fu, but a few times...)

Well done Phillipe, that was fun though it's still all a mystery to me as my eyes aren't quite what they were! Even with a magnifying glass :rotfl: :rotfl:

If that´s Christian Huguet running after the ball in the first pic, that´s also him with the ball directly above his head in the second, unless someone else was dressed the same. ;)

Blimey  Very well spotted, Rhodie . I have to admitt that I would not have recognized Christian Huguet if he hadn't been one of the few named by Baldé in the original caption..... and frankly I recognize him even less in the second pic....oh well

Not the Looijesteijn brothers (Harry, Co, Peter, George), more back in time, it's 1965.

One "player" from this racing family is the father from the "boys" below.
