Looking for new picture, I found this on ebay, showing a Ferrari 625 (apparently in 1955 configuration with low exhaust pipes).
The race number seems to be "214", even if the "2" is not clearly defined.
I don't think that the number could be "14" since it is asymmetric and not rotated un-clockwise, as usually was in that case.

Any idea?

In the early sixties a guy named Ian Sievwright sprinted and hillclimbed a 625 with a very obscure history in England, so it may be his car although the other cars in the background are American.

Do anyone know the 625's chassis number and Sievwright's story?

It was de Portago's 1955 car, c/no 0540, apparently built from the Ecurie Francorchamps 500 #0208
After de Portago it went to the Healey Motor Co in 1956 for study purposes and was advertised by them at the end of 1959
Sievwright ran it from 1960 to at least 1967
It was later in two French collections and one German, but - to pre-empt your next question - I don't know where it is now

David, I seem to recall that IS crashed it at Oulton Park one year, possibly early to mid-60s. He was using it as an all purpose racer I think, a most unlikely piece of kit for such purposes.

Where indeed is it now, perhaps Alexander Boswell would know.

If it is #0540, it went to the UK from Germany in 1998 (entered in 98 Spa Ferrari days). Sold at B&B Gstaad auction in 2000 to Switzerland (Lot 134, 1048.5 kGBP).
Goodwood 2004 entered by Mr. A. Boswell (#625).

Thanks Arjan. The Gstaad auction was the last appearance I had heard for it

Alex Boswell's car is a different one :)

The Ferrari Tipo 625 & 555, Profile Publications 1966:

"........A sole example has survived. This is said to be the car which won the 1955 Monaco race
and is now owned by Ian Sievwright. Although a 1955 625, it has a 4-speed gearbox and an
ordinary 625 engine. Furthermore, it has no chassis number."

Not sure at about the Monaco appearence but it might be of interest to racall that between Portago and Siewright 0540 was owned by Donald Healey and that the engine was tested in a Healey special once raced by Peter Collins at Nassau.

I've got a club racing video with footage from '61 and '62 with a Ferrari similar to that described here at (I think) Mallory or Oulton. I do recall that the video shows the car at the bottom of a steep slope at the end of the race, embedded in the undergrowth - the narrator quips "We've got Ferraris at the bottom of our garden!" :rotfl:

Healey advertised the car in Autosport as the Monaco winner, but I believe that has been subsequently proven to be in error.

This is a BRSCC film, it is what I was referring to earlier and I think it was Oulton Park.

I have just watched the latest MFQ (no.22) which features David Roscoe's excellent colour film of the 1962 BRSCC season.

One of the races was an Oulton Park meeting and in the unlimited racing car event there was IS's Ferrari 625 towering over the assorted FJ Lotus, Cooper and others. There is a brief but clear shot of the car on the grid and then accelerating away at the back of the pack. At the end of the race off the road at Knickerbrook and down the bank was the battered Ferrari close to a similarly crashed Ford Prefect. It is seen being hauled back up the bank with assorted rear end damage.

Whatever became of Ian Sievwright?
