Last week I bought the McLaren MP4-23 Lewis Hamilton F1 car model, and yesterday I bought the Felipe Massa F2008 F1 model, and even though I also own the 2004 05 06 07 F1 Ferrari's, and Alonso's R26 2006 Renault, I must say that 2008 had the best looking cars ever in F1! Sure the paint schemes weren't the best, I think 2004 paint schemes were better with the yellow Jordan, Mild Seven Renault etc., though the cars themselves were more simple, but over all the 2008 F1 cars just looked spectacular! I am thinking of buying all 2008 F1 team models, that's how beautiful they are to me! Now sure the racing was far from great, but the season was pretty good and close with a point determeming the winner of the drivers title. Yea 2006 cars were pretty wonderful as well with the Renault looking the best, hence me owing that model as well. So glad these models are being made, though hell must freeze over before I even think about buying a 2009 F1 model - :rotfl:

I just wanted to share this all with you, :)

2008 certainly looked better than this year's "snowplough specials". The 2008 arent perfect though - I would prefer the front wing to have been lower. And slick tyres.

Ah yes was meant to mention that. Sure the grooved tyres are not, I repeat not the true race tyres, I know, but for looks sakes I am glad they were grooves, so I can see wonderfully crafted grooved tyres on my models, rather than plain old boring one peice rubbered tyres. Well that's how it looks to me. Of course we all have our own tastes. :)

I think the f1 car i liked most from 90's-to today was the Ferrari 2002 and Jordan 7up.

I also can say that a 2009 model car will never came to my home. "For sure" :p !

Slick tyres to me hold very little aesthetic value... I mean they're not even part of the car at all. It's the performance of them over grooved tyres which I like about them. Never understood everyone's love for the appearance of slicks...

From some angles the 09 cars are pretty decent....I've gotten used to these wing proportions, so last year's cars actually look worse IMO

Ahh again I am glad I am not eating at this moment! That Ferrari pic to me looks like a 20 million Euro limit was placed for this season, hence the ugly incomplete beasts we see lapping the circuits this year. But like I said, we all have our own tastes....

I absolutely disagree.
The 2008 cars were infested with winglets. But they did look much better than these lego cars F1 has now.

Late 80s had the best looking cars ever.

Well that's what was appealing in my view, unless you are someome who loves a simple look, and even though I love Senna's 88 Mclaren, those cars were simple and box like lol. Yea I guess we all have different opinions and well that's that really, I love the 08 cars, and that's me, some will agree with me, and some won't, no problemo.

Heck I bet there's many who loved the odd 70's look, or even the wingless 60's look etc., but for me 08 was grand!

Personally I liked 2007 better. No ugly anvil covers and only Ferrari had the wheel covers.

Well F1 is all about innovation no? There has to be defining characteristics between an F1 car and say, a Formula 3 car. F1 cars shouldn't look like bog-standard racing cars. We have to look at things from both perspectives...

As far as winglet cars go, I like the MP4-20 and MP4-17D (even though today's standard's make it look barely naked).

Personaly for me, apart from the 2007/2008 mclarens, the 1989/1990 ferrari 640/641 are the best looking F1 cars. Dont know quite why, they just 'looked' right. Of the 2009 generation i think the brawn is perhaps the most appealing. It too 'looks' right. The Ferrari is bland, the mclaren -well- not good. The red bull is growing on me however

MP4-20 best looking car. I really liked the R26 tribal liveries. And when Ferrari raced Marlboro like China 07. Those were all good looking winglet cars

08 - Best looking F1 cars? Ehmm...... ;)

What puzzles me is that the 89 PENSKE Indycar (or the other indycars of the era) seems to look more advanced/tidy than the 88 McLaren, yet the McLaren is supposedly the most advanced (and plainly the fastest) turbo car in world motorsport history!

Yes I see we are discussing winglets and the lack of them again. I remember this debacle concerning winglets on wings and their Frankenstein off springs. The 2009 cars' resounding features are not found at the front, given, I understand. From other angles though its cleanliness adds to its grace, surely you mist all agree on that?!!
Yes the MP4-4 was a beautiful and efficient machine that had not an extra pound of carbon fibre baked on for coaxing the air slightly here or there. (winglets)
Another example of a clean, honest, pure line is the beautiful Ferrari 642.. all hail!

I always found the MP4/6 to be a very pleasing car on the eye.

In terms of racers from any series it would have to be the Ferrari 637

I don't think the severe undercut on the sidepods does much for the cars.

Ditto high noses / splitters.

I prefer the 2009 cars. Much smoother, much easier on the eye. The aerodynamic bells and whistles on the 208-spec cars reminded me of a turkey that came with extra drumsticks; not because it was packed that way, but because the animal was genetically modified to have more meat. Sure, the aids made the cars quicker, but they were eyesores. They weren't used in the days of Prost and Senna, and I'm glad they're gone. Formula One had stopped being about the racing on the circuit and started being about who could come up with more wings and devices to funnel air.

Is that joke? FIA have ruled major dimensions for a long time now.

2008 and the stupid multi winglets are some of the worst looking in F1 history - try watching some other seasons then look at them immediately to see the differences. Not that they are the best, but the 96 feild I was looking at last night rocks over 08, low, wide and sleek.

Oh and I'll add except for a couple of Jordans and maybe 1 or 2 I cant think of right now, there isnt a high nose F1 car I like. The side pods on the 96 Jordan looked like a fighter jets.

Thank goodness for the Brawn this year, the nose on it looks almost normal compared to the other nose in the sky pieces of styling crap.

For me, the best looking F1 cars were the mid to late 80s, and then the early 90s.

I also liked the "pureness" & simple shape of the F1 cars during the mid-60s, too.

Sorry, but to me the 2008 cars looked like the hideous deformed offspring of an H.R.Giger inspired creation.... then again they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and as a fan of the Ferrari 310 my opinions on aesthetics probably don't count much to many people.

Best looking F1 cars in my humble opinion: Most cars from the 70's, particularly those with the high airboxes and the last pre-ground effect cars, as well as anything designed by Gordon Murray. Also most of the cars from 1996-7, particularly the MP4/11 and Jordan 197.

Looks like the majority prefer the sleek, simple look. ;)

Apart from the rear wing that looks as if it had parts stolen off it to make the front wing, I really like this years cars. They're kind of swoopy and smexi. Last years cars look as if chassis was magnetised and driven through the factory, picking up stray pieces of crap.

The first thing I thought when I saw the 2008 car was that it looks like something out a certain Michael Bay film that involves explosions the size of small African nations. The 2009 car actually looks like a race car, and not something made by ILM.

I really loved this rear- and frontwing. Disappointing that they didn't use this frontwing 2008 because the nose of the 4-23 looked better than the one of the 4-22.

You can spend a lot of time looking at the 08 cars appreciating the detail, with the 09 cars you get bored after 3 seconds.
