It was probably directed at Benetton Flavio Briatore, who had almost completely ignored Johnny throughout the 1995 season. In fact, it is alleged that Johnny's win at Silverstone prevented Briatore from using a clause in Johnny's contract which may have seen him dumped part way through the season.

I don't know but it may have something to do with his previous experience at Monza?

I don't know why Herbert is giving the finger but I moved this thread from the Atlas forum to RC as you'll probably have a better chance of getting the answer from the folks in here.

b195 spot on - Herbert had a performance related contract, his win guarenteed his place in the team fot the rest of the season. Briatore wasn't happy! you should have seen his face after the race!!

 Sounds like the sort of thing Flavio would cook up... I wasn't surprised at an article on Autosport.com today by Alex Wurz, who mentioned that he had 'the qualifying car' for the first time this year at Sepang...

hmmm I hope Button knows what he's doing going to Benetton.

Everybody who remebers what happened to JJ Lehto and Flavios actions after that, has to agree with this ... he is a fickle f***er!

don't worry, Button will do well, he will get all the best equipment in the team. Flavio already decided to replace Fisichella with Trulli the day he was hired. Fisi is out of the door already, Jarno will join the team in 2002, therefore Flavio will do everything to see Button do well, since the lad will stay in 2002 as well. Poor Fisi will have a 2001 season similar to Herbert and Wurtz's experiences with that ar#ehole....

Which begs the question, who wants to go to Benetton?? Its a bit of a graveyard for talented drivers at the moment..!

Button will only get the equipment as long as he can get results. The minute he falters he will fall into the Wurz/Fisichella/Herbert/Brundle category and Flav will be shopping for a replacement :)

Of course, he might not falter but Schumacher hinted at Flavio's tendencies when he left Benetton; FB was taking a lot of the credit for things that were obviously Schumacher's doing, and that seemed to be part of the reason MS left. Flav seems to take all the credit and none of the blame...

well, because Button is talented and will get the best materials, i think he will succeed next year. In 2002, Trulli will be there and Jenson will be on his way out to rejoin Williams...so, 2002 could be hard for him, but next year it will be good. Flavio became famous because of Schumacher and realizing how good the German was, he sacrificed everyone else to make sure Schumi would get all the best, so he could live off the German's star. Button and Trulli are his current bets, I wish Flavio would fail miserably because he doesn't know how to threat drivers, but I like Trulli and Button too much to wish them poor results

I think Flavio thinks that he is a lot better or more important than he actually is... Fisichella is a top-6 driver, and that means he should really be in a Mac, Ferrari or Williams. Looking at it like that, Benetton are very lucky to have him... I can't imagine Fisichella tarting around at the back of the field if he was driving for Frank or Ron..!

I hope Button wins a race. That would definitely put him in dodgy Flav's good books. I like Trulli as well but Fisichella has done nothing wrong. Added to that, Trulli hasn't done very much; he actually scored less points than a demotivated Hill did last year..! Who would have predicted that?

Jenson may be back with Williams earlier than expected if Montoya performs like Zanardi. Poor Fisi would have to endure more time with Flavio.

Flav will keep going through drivers like old Supertech engines until he finds another Schumacher, it's as simple as that. He may be good at rallying up sponsorship and organisation of mechanics and designers, but his treatment of drivers is shocking. I just hope that both these guys, especially jenson, perform well or else they're stuffed!

For me this is not signed and sealed. It could be FB's usual psycho-crap to put some fire under Fisi's rear.
