if so - my apologies.

A few familiar faces: Kart race organized by Kubica at Lonato track, Italy.

Schumaher, Vettel, Glock, Massa, Piquet, Liuzzi (and Kubica of course) present, as far as I can see.

I think it was more of a fun day at the track rather than a race.

I agree - worst use of flash ever!

I haven't seen Glock anywhere... I would guess they meant Klien, who was there.

Piquet said they had two compounds of tyres throughout the day from Bridgestone and Dunlop which messed the times up a bit. I don't think they took it too seriously it was just some fun. Though Schumi has been racing KZ2 a lot in Germany recently.

They haven't published Fore's times :) wonder why ?

I would guess so.
Massa organizes similiar races, doesn't he? With MS and many others taking part in these events? I recall last year's info about RK not beeing able to attend 'couse of some shitty BMW PR job.

And RK has his own karting race team now.

What Massa organises is slightly different. it's more of an event, whereas this appears Kubica getting some lads together for some laps, albeit very fast laps. Piquet said on his Twitter it's more tiring than driving in F1. I quite believe him. i used to race in the 70-80s and even then it took a hell of a lot out you.

I like this picture. Piquet taking tips frmo an all time karting legend - davide Fore. No motorsport fan can call themself a true fan if they don't know who this guy is!

Vettel recording his time on a KF spec kart. Which is 125cc single gear, whereas the rest were recorded on 6-speed karts. Just in case anyone wondered why he was so far off :)

yeah, I think noone cares - SV is as good as any of the others. this was just a fun day for everyone, I guess. (thanks to Robert)
karts were different, tyres different, conditions different. it's not F1, luckily...

racing last week in a cheap 125CC honda powered kart after 20 laps I had no feeling in my arms  so with a 15,000 euro tony kart they must be flying. (not saying that my fitness is up to F1/schumi standards :D)

Might have been useless, too.

One has to wonder why the whole, 'Why doesn't 'x' team hire 'y' driver' arguments dont extend beyond F1 circles and apply to series like karting, which is farther from F1 than Formula Ford is.

I don't think they raced, Just a couple days out with the lads.

the different combinations of karts/chassis/tyres make the times irrelevant.

I think they are doing it for their own fun, not for the fans, that's why they don't publish results. Good for them.

from todays FIA press conf:

"Q: Robert, you organised a karting event last weekend. Can you tell us about it and how it relates to Formula One?
Robert Kubica: To say I organised it, is a bit too much. We did have some idea with Timo (Glock) to go karting for a very long time but it never worked out for one year. Then finally we fixed a date. We knew that maybe Michael (Schumacher) was coming, so we asked some drivers and they joined us, so we had good fun, a good days of driving. Also a bit of competition because once you have drivers, even if it is not an F1 track, but karting there is always competition. There is always someone who wants to be the fastest but overall I think it was good fun. There were drivers which drove for the first time in karts, so they really saw it is a hard job and it was good fun.

Q: So who was there and who was fastest?
RK: Michael was the fastest. (Vitantonio) Liuzzi was also very good.

Q: And you?
RK: I was not bad. It depends what you were testing. We were just testing with the chassis as we are preparing for a World Championship which will take place in September. I have also my driver down there and he was the fastest apart from F1 drivers. We tried testing, just preparing materials and chassis for the world championship.

Q: Let’s come to this race.
RK: Back to reality.

Q: You were there two days racing.
RK: Yes, two days.

..."

Smartycams have built-in GPS, accelerometers, bluetooth, etc.

I have no idea why karting isn't televised on the World Level. Schumacher and Senna both never left karting and said that it it kept their F1 skills sharp.

So none of the drivers will take part in the World Championship? They just did a shake down of the cars? Would be fun if Schumacher (or any of the active drivers but I guess thats out of the question as it's in the F1 season) could take part again, he almost won in 2001 if I remember correctly.

The World Championship went through a phase of being a muilti round championship instead of a one-off. Schumacher took part in one round (of 4). Now it's back to one-off. In one of the finals placed 2nd (wet). He was pretty average in the dry if memory serves me correctly but in the wet he was rapid.... but he had done some significant wet mileage round the track. :)

I wouldn't be surprised to seer Schumi enter another world champs though. He has done a lot of mileage recently in a kart.

Its a shame F1 drivers don't have a crack at the worlds more often but the actual reality is most of them would get destroyed without proper testing. APart from Schumi/Luizzi/Trulli/Fisi the others would need a lot of time in the seat even hamilton
