I think he'll be back for the next race. They won't run the car tomorrow, I don't think.

Fair enough he may race but he's taken a knock to the head and I seriously doubt it.

If he can race then it means he is 100% OK. That's what all should hope for.
They won't let him race tomorrow.

You might be right.
But when Button was knocked out in Monaco 2005 (or was it 2003?) he had to sit on the sidelines for the rest of the weekend.

Even if he feels 100% fit now, will he be allowed to race? Remember Jenson wasn't at Monaco, although that was a different type of accident. Felipe took a hit to his head, FIA might not allow him to race.

Poor lad.
Pretty much all sports if someone is knocked unconscious there is a risk of concussion. If someone then takes another hit it can do severe damage so they aren't allowed to compete.

If the crash light in the cockpit is triggered, is it mandatory that the driver is taken to hospital even if he seems to be OK?
It means that the driver has to go to the circuit's medical centre but not to a hospital outside the circuit.

By all accounts, he was unconsious after the hit, and it's very very likely he has a concussion. He will never be allowed to race with a concussion.
EDIT: Hadn't seen the picture. No, he wont race, 101% sure, and he was EXTREMELY lucky.

"Intanto Stefano Domenicali, responsabile della gestione sportiva della Ferrari, ha già chiarito che "domani Felipe Massa non correrà il Gran Premio d'Ungheria. E' stato intubato, ma è cosciente e la situazione è sotto controllo"."
As close as a shave with - at least - permanent infirmity can get! Hope he gets well soon!

Wow, thanks for posting and for the warning.
He won't be racing tomorrow and looks as if he'll have a decent shiner.
Look how much the helmet is compressed around Massa's injured eye.
That small white Schuberth label next to it is usually flat like the one on the other side, but is all rumpled.

Eerily similar to Henry's accident, hit by a part from another car. Apparently Ruben's car in another part of circuit lauched a suspension component which struck Felipe on helmet. Talk about freak accidents.
If anyone has the latest confirmed information on how Felipe's doing, please use this topic to update us. Give source of your information, too.
So was it just up the road where the part came off?

Jesus Christ... two inches lower and he wouldn't have been able to get on an F1 car ever again. Serious ****.
Hope he makes a full recovery.

Who would be Ferrari's replacement?
Surely not Gene or Badoer.
Maybe Ferrari want his profile off F1 Rejects, so they decide to put him in the car.
Sorry.

Hope his sight will be alright. Such massive blow, but indeed the impact shouldn't have been any lower.
Totally off topic, but I am watching the Silverstone Classic and bloody Stirling Moss is about to go out in an open face helmet and goggles in an open top car!! Nuts.
I hope to god there is no serious injury for Felipe. He is a class bloke and a I hope he is ok. Another inch lower and it would have been so much worse.
