13) Pascal 302 (1) [234/120]
14) John 298 (3) [234/130]

Congratulations to jack and gilles for a very strong and impressing victory! :)

-Points were lost for all drivers scoring in the race except Irvine.
-The only major change in positions was Jaybee moving ahead of Turbo and me.
-The general trend this season was that too few points were placed on the Ferrari, Williams and McLaren teams, while too many points were placed on the Jordan and Jaguar teams. The []-brackets in the list above contain the total points placed by each driver on the top 3 teams followed by the total points placed on the Jordan and Jaguar teams.

Surprising drivers list

See http://www.atlasf1.c...?threadid=10022 for info on how this list is calculated.

Button 240%
Ralf Schumacher 133.3 %
Coulthard 115.9 %
Fisichella 100 %
Barrichello 100 %
Michael Schumacher 90.8 %
Häkkinen 73.6 %
Villeneuve 47.2 %
Verstappen 45.5 %
Frentzen 23.4 %
Salo 23.1 %
Trulli 22.2 %
Zonta 18.8 %
Wurz 14.3 %
de la Rosa 13.3 %
Irvine 12.9 %
All other drivers: 0 %

-Rubens Barrichello became the fifth and last 100 % surprise of the season.

How many competitors did each driver surprise this season ? Here's a listing:

Fisichella 14
Button 14
Ralf Schumacher 14
Coulthard 14
Barrichello 14
Häkkinen 12
Michael Schumacher 12
Verstappen 8
de la Rosa 7
Villeneuve 6
Salo 3
Zonta 2
All other drivers 0

Here's how well each driver fared compared to the average amount of points each competitor placed on him (100%*WDC points/Average points placed):

Button 672 %
Ralf Schumacher 193.1 %
Coulthard 159.9 %
Fisichella 152.7 %
Michael Schumacher 131.4 %
Barrichello 130.1 %
Verstappen 118.6 %
Häkkinen 110.3 %
Villeneuve 89.8 %
de la Rosa 70.0 %
Salo 63.6 %
Zonta 48.3 %
Wurz 32.9 %
Trulli 32.6 %
Frentzen 28.5 %
Irvine 19.6 %
Mazzacane
Gene 0 %
Heidfeld 0 %
Alesi 0 %
Diniz 0 %
Herbert 0 %

I listed the 0 %-drivers in "least disappointing-order", which means that the driver who was on an average tipped to score the fewest points did better to score nothing than the other ones... Mazzacane can't have a percentage calculated; nobody placed any points on him and dividing by zero is a nasty thing to do in most cultures. But since he actually did exactly what we expected him to do, I reckon he should at least be ahead of the 0 %-drivers!

Which drivers have we wasted the most points on? here's a list on how many points that didn't come to use were placed on each driver:

Frentzen 386 points
Herbert 291
Irvine 230
Trulli 174
Diniz 66
Alesi 65
Villeneuve 64
Wurz 57
Salo 54
Heidfeld 53
Zonta 50
Häkkinen 42
de la Rosa 21
Verstappen 17
Gene 10
M Schumacher 10
All other drivers (the 100 % surprises and Mazzacane): 0 points

This list goes to show that we expected too much from the Jordan and Jaguar teams.

Was the PTPC forecast any useful?

Did the forecasts posted throughout the season give any insight on the final standings? Let's compare a few forecasts to the final standings of the competition!!

This is the PTPC final standings with a bracket for each player. The brackets contain the difference between each player's final result and the forecast from the Japanese GP followed by which final position the forecasts after five races (the Japanese, Belgian, Austrian, Monaco and British Grands Prix) predicted for each player:

1) jack and gilles 365 (+0.5/1/1/1/3/1)
2) FordFan 356 (+2.9/2/2/3/1/4)
3) Nikolas Garth 350 (+0.5/3/3/2/4/2)
4) Jaybee 341 (+3.3/4/7/6/2/3)
5) Turbo 338 (+0.4/5/6/4/6/5)
6) Makarias 332 (-1.2/7/5/5/5/11)
7) Tomerell 331 (-2.4/6/4/8/9/7)
8) smarty 326 (-0.6/8/8/9/8/8)
9) Apex 325 (-0.2/9/9/7/7/5)
10) RaggedEdge 317 (-0.2/10/10/10/11/10)
11) Grano 310 (-1.3/11/12/11/10/12)
12) Czesc 307 (-2.3/12/11/12/14/14)
13) Pascal 302 (-1.4/13/13/13/12/13)
14) John 298 (+0.5/14/14/14/13/9)

While the forecast hasn't been very reliable on predicting the final scores, it has been pretty good at predicting the approximate final standings of the competition. The prediction after the British GP -only the fourth GP of the season- got the names in the top five right, and the final bottom five were then all predicted to be in the bottom six.

Enough lists for the off-season I hope! Thanks for this season and a merry christmas to all of you! :)
