I remember reading ages ago that Richard Carpenter (the male half of The Carpenters pop group) used to relax by 'driving his race cars'. Just as a matter of interest, does anyone know what cars he owned and ran?

Are you sure you were reading that right? I can't ever remember Richard racing cars. If that comes to light, it'll be news to me. His collection included (or still includes) several Ferraris and other misc. foreign sports cars but mostly, he is noted for owning a great collection of Chrysler "letter series" cars and other great 60's collectibles. He and I crossed paths a couple of times in the '80s when he began collecting in earnest - he has a real eye towards high quality restorations.
