The current colour is a lot darker than en previous seasons. From, say, 1998 through 2006, the Ferraris were more dayglo red than scarlet. In the Autosport Gallery, there is a photo spread on "Italian Ferrari Drivers". Looking through the photos, it reminded me that Ferraris used to have the blood red scarlett livery rather than the Malboro red that they now have. (I know that while Malboro is in the picture it probably won't happen but) is there anyone else out there who would like to see Ferrari return to the scarlett they used to have.

When you saw those Marlboro Ferraris in the flesh they were almost orange.
Today's colour look much better.

It's a complicated color for TV too, as it sometimes could look almost brown.
This year, the Marlboro red (or a related shade) was replaced by the Rosso Perlato shade.

Actually last season Ferrari had a beautiful dark metallic red color, but this season they had to save a few Kg's so they went back to the light red color. The old red is the Rosso Corsa, to be more exact.

I wish we could get something definitive on this...the F60 doesn't look like it's using the '97-'06 Marlboro Red/Orange. It looks darker although not the metallic of '07-'08.

I think they changed shades of red at the start of the 2007 season from what it had been for years. Midway through the 07 season (Monaco perhaps), they changed the shade of red again to a darker shade. I think they kept that shade of red right through to the end of the 2008 season. Not sure what shade they're using this year but its definitely not the one from the first part of the 2007 season.
It's the Rosso Perlato one.
It was said that this specific shade saves weight.
I remember this mention on James Allen's blog.
And AFCA has talked about it here.

Remember the uproar when the 'shade' of red was changed to suit Marlboro. Not sure it was really such a big issue.Scarlet Ferrari is such a Murrayism .... either way, 08 color was decent (much better than the Ferrari Orange of the Schumacher years) though I still prefer the oldschool red they used on the 412T
