hi guys,

hadn't noticed the star of david on rubens' helmet before today but the solid massa green on top of his helmet and the delicious HD rollbar camera made it a lot clearer. on further investigation, he's had a star of david on top of his helmet for at least most of this year - but i can't find any definitive answers online. it's well known that he's religious - but catholic. this jewish site offers a possible explanation. can anyone confirm or deny? http://www.thejc.com...isnt-telling-us

it's always interesting to hear the stories behind the symbols that drivers wear.

Rubens is a Catholic, not a Jew, and I think the star means something else.

He's always had a star on top of his helmet, but a 'normal' one, it hasn't become a star like that until this year and I don't think it started the season in that shape.

I think it was 'How come Max hates Rubens so much?'

Here in Brazil the star of David is used by african religions or sects. Actually those religions are a mix of catholicism and african and they are spread and not only related to african heritage people, most white people go to a Macumba and Candomble cults and this is accepted by some catholic bishops and priests, chiefly in Bahia state, it is called sincretism.

The star of David is not the sole domain of the Jewish religeon. It generally symbolises as above so below. In Chakra symbology it represents the heart (Anahata) and is therefore the symbol of balance. It can also represent the self created ego meeting the spiritual self and can be seen as the symbol of the 7 elements of incarnation; consciousness, light, space, air, fire, water and earth. Ironically the nazi swastica was originally from Tibet and represented 5 elements earth, water, fire and air spinning in harmony around a central element of space!

Sorry for the OT,but the svastika was originally from India, not Tibet. Was taken over and adopted during the spread of buddhism, though.

No incorrect. the Tibetan/Indian Svastika spins anticlockwise, the arms demonstrating the direction of spin. The Nazi's buggered about with it but generally settled with a 30 degree tilt of the axis, but still had it spinning the same way.

^(above) Spot-on,although the mirrored svastika is also used. The hexagram (Star of David) isn't specific to Judaism either-I know for certain that it's used in India-so the one on Rubens helmet might have something to do with the Brazillian subsect theory. Or maybe not-didn't follow the original discussion.

From today Press Conference:

Q. (Boaz Korpel – The Sports Channel, Israel) Rubens, everybody is wondering about the symbol on the top of your helmet which looks like the Star of David. You have a big community of fans in Israel, so can you solve this question for us about this symbol on the top of your helmet?

RB: The star first started with someone telling me that I should have something on the top. That happened in 1995, someone came to me and said 'someone in the sky is looking at you' and for me, I felt something good about it, and I put a star there, which you could call anything, but it's just a star. It was a five pointed star. After that, I made some changes because my energy comes from a six pointed star, not a five pointed star, and people aren't just associating that to the Jewish community. It is the Star of David but if you study everything worldwide it doesn't link straight to the Jewish community. I'm Catholic but it doesn't mean anything, it's just the fact that I'm a spiritualist and I believe in any points of goodwill. I basically had one thing for the start of my career in '93, '94, '95 and now it's just the energy from the six pointed star.

Rubens' energy comes from a six pointed star, not a five pointed star. I might have guessed.

That's funny...I thought most of his "energy" on the track this year was coming from a three-pointed star.
