Ok, I have taken popular suggestions from the previous post, and I want to see how this BB votes on the matter... an Excellent site I can recommend that has most of these on video clip is http://www.f-1.ru/video/index_e.html go here, check out the options, or if you find another nasty one yourself, let me know!!! But to be somewhat classy, try to keep it limited to shunts that drivers survived (for a few reasons I really don't feel right making a poll about fatal crashes).

Berger, but only because that was perhaps the 2nd F1 race I ever watched and it scared the living crap out of me.

I dunno which F1 crash was the worst, but Geoff Bodine's crash this year was the worst I've ever seen.

Guess I'm a little cynical, but I don't really think that Berger's crash was really that bad. I remember watching it, and never did I really think that his life was in danger... That's the vibe I got, unlike Ayrton's at the same corner. Piquet's in 1987 (also Tamburello) was nasty, and Pironi's at Hokenheim in 82 was pretty frightening. I'm surprised you didn't mention Phillipe Strieff's accident in pre-season testin at the end of '88. Probably the worst wreck of an F1 car I've seen.

How about Ukyo Katayama, Tyrell, Portugal 1995? That was a crash and a half.

Zonta at Eau Rouge, in 1999! Or the one where he cleared the fence at Stowe

Out of the ones you listed, i'd say Lauda.

DJS: It was not the first accident I saw, but my heart stood still and I was sure Berger was dead even before the car exploded into flames.

(I didn´t see the accident of Streiff you mentioned, but of those listed up here I voted for Berger´s. A very frightening moment in Lauda´s accident, though, was the one when the car, already in flames, was hit by another.)

I dunno, Lauda's is pretty terrifying to see in retrospect. Andretti had an amazing multiple barrel roll at MidOhio and walked away with just bruising and shellshock. Verstappen's pit fire (94 or 95?) had me very worried at the time.

Oh BTW...
"Three guys walk into a bar. Guy one dons a stupid red wig, asking for a drink. Guy two asks for Finlandia, but when told they are fresh out, runs out the door and is found sobbing behind a bush. Guy three gives guy one the finger, then apologizes."
Good signature. Hilarious!

Martin Donnelly's crash in Jerez, in 1990.

His Lotus was absolutely destroyed, and I see it as a miracle the he actually survived since he ended up face down on the track with broken bones and serious head trauma...
