Nice shot, James.

Was that taken with your new, trick, macro thingamabob? (for those unaware, that's a technical Nikon term)

Is that a crack in the ring gear (RHS of photo) or just a flaw in the surface?

I assume this does NOT need to be explained.

But of course, IMHO, Cool!

Might show to my Packard restorer friend. I've striped lots of Packards for him and the wheel stripes don't look "factory original" so curious what's up there! Sometimes even the factories deviated from their own style.

(that is, presuming we survive the incoming hurricane...) ;-)

Ironically I've not been able to view the Collier Collection in Naples as it's been closed on previous visits due to the Hurricane Season. This time I managed to pop in on the first day of reopening. What a wonderful place. The 917K is wonderfully under restored :)

Having got back to the UK it's worrying to see the weather hitting the East Coast of the USA and more so for the population of Haiti.

Awesome, Alan! The Martini car?

We feel terrible for Haiti. Those poor people can't get a break. Sad as hell.

The air feels really strange, there's a feeling of impending doom in it. Never felt anything like this. Everyone at this campground's staying except for a guy in a pop up trailer, who said his parrot can tell something's amiss. Guess we'll find out how good or bad our 33 year-old seals are, but I'm confident we'll be fine.

Indeed it is.

I've just spent a month touring Florida and was in Indian Shores when Storm Hermine came past. Lots of flooding, high tides etc, but I think this latest one is worse. We'd been in Tallahassee a few days before Hermine and was glad were weren't there when it hit land. Lots of power outages etc.

Back to the Collier Collection. I recommend anybody in the area to book in for a viewing. Fabulous place :)

Edit: Keep safe E1pix

Fabulous imagery!

Not really as I was suffering severe camera failure and had to resort to my iPhone!

This is one my daughter took on her iPhone 6. Who'd have thought this was possible a few years ago.

I was looking at new camera equipment while in Florida as it's normally a lot cheaper than the UK but because of the exchange rate falls, due to us annoying the EU, it's probably better to buy it here.

I'm continually surprised at how good an image I can get from my iPhones. The Packard photo is all-phone (I obviously played with it in an app). I've blown a number of them up to fairly large prints (12x12, 11x14, etc.) and they look just fine.

The Packard, by the by, was definitely a restored example. I've no idea of the model or year - I saw it at the Geneva Concourse back in August but I didn't take any notes.

Here's another one - on display at the Chicago Auto Show a few years back. Wonderfully evocative, I thought at the time.

The very fact that I am able to post this photo here is down to David; when flickr "upgraded" their software I was defeated, until he walked me through it! Thanks matey.

Spot the odd man out! These really were the last of the hand-made racing cars; Italians from the 60s.
