Try Autobookworld in Sydney... 02 9299 6669...

Fred may have one, I know Max Stahl had some of those and he was selling everything through Fred. Fred has a list of Max's stuff.

McWidow,

You could also try Tony Johns in Melbourne - email him at johnst@netlink.com.au . I know he's had some of this series in recent times. #5 is the 1955 edition and has the Cooper & Ferrari on the cover.

Failing that, if it's a specific article you want I can scan from mine.

Also the National Library of Australia have most if not all of these, and if you are a member they will scan and mail to you for a price.

Thank you for your help,

I am looking for information concerning ferrari single seater an in detail I am trying to find out when the Cobden's Ferrari 125 0114 (ex peter whitehead) had been re-painted from green to red. I know that on the relevant issue there is a colour pic of that car (#49).

Can you try to find it: my mail is gdallavedova@libero.it

Anyhow I will try to buy a copy for my archive.

I don't think that publication will help you, Gianpaolo
I'm sure the Ferrari was green when Cobden raced it in GB in 1955, and after it returned to Australia
I don't think it was repainted red until after Brydon bought it in 1957, possibly at the time of the engine-swap in mid-1958

I have read in one old thread that on the front page of the mentioned issue there is a colour pic of the red #49 Cobden's ferrari (Mt Druitt 1954??)

Can you tell me the event raced on 1955 in GB and if relevant coloured pics exist.

I have a suspicion that the covers of that Annual used hand-coloured b&w photos. So they might simply have decided red looked better...

He raced the Ferrari at Ibsley on 30/4/55 and Brands Hatch on 31/7/55 and possibly other libre races. The main purpose of his European trip was to race Aston Martins in sportscar races. I don't recall seeing any colour photos

Gianpaolo,

As David has mentioned the cover of this and many of these small Motor Manual AMR annuals are indeed hand tinted card covers (they began with the 1951 edition). So some artistic licence was probably at play. The 1955 edition has a page and 1/4 of photo and text on the Cobden Ferrari (plus half the cover).

I've had a look at my 1955 Bathurst programme and the car is listed as out of the country at the time (in UK - going by David's comment).

On page 147 of John Medley's masterpiece, 'Bathurst - Cradle of Australian motor racing' he has one photograph (that he has borrowed from a period magazine) of the car at Bathurst in 1954. But it is hard to tell with this b&w photo whether its red or green. If this thread can get John's attention then maybe he can answer the question personally.

I'll be sending through scans soon Gianpaolo.

I agree with David McKinney: basically that the car was green in Cobden's hands in Australia and overseas, then red with Brydon. and we should not be misled by those coloured black and white photos

In P147 Bathurst book pic the Ferrari was green. I saw that spin. Dick Cobden said to me much later with feigned hurt 'You know John you put only three photos of me in your book , one spinning one dirty one crashed-- and I rarely did any of those things'

The question could be put to Dick Cobden -- except I dont have contact details for him

Gianpaolo,

I think you can enjoy the fact that most questions placed on TNF will get an answer. You now have John Medley's response and you have the scans from the AMR #5 annual. It's also quite probable someone amongst us has a contact for Dick Cobden.
