Tim Richmond's 3-1 Supermodified

Awhile back a photo of a open wheel car with 3 wheels on the right side, and none on the left front, was posted here. I was one of those thinking it was a joke, a phonied photo created for laughs.

Now comes the January "Circle Track" magazine and on page 35 there is a color photo of the car (the "3-1 Supermodified"), which makes it clear the layout is for real (a streamlined tail fin conceals the LR tire in the photo, which was less apparent in the B&W pic posted on TNF). Tim Richmond is identified as being behind the wheel, and it appears he is getting the obligatory push start on a racetrack infield, for a testing session. The odd chassis geometry adds uo to more sense in this photo. (The picture accompanies an interview with former GM racing honcho Herb Fishel, who says racing needs more original thinking.)
