I know the cars' colors aren't anything alike this year, but sooner or later, one of them might be forced to change the colors a bit, like when Rubens had to change his because Schumacher's was alike and it was a bit difficult to differ them.
Altought Bruno Senna is Ayrton's nephew, Lewis is already champ, so...
what d'you think, any change in sight, will they both stick to the yellow?

It only applies if they are in the same team. Also Rubens did not change his helmet, Michael did.

Lewis should change his. its a blatant copy.

Bruno is Ayrtons successor. I still remember him on that senna dvd driving his uncles boat and looking in the window at Ayrtons model planes. Its a Senna design. People out of the Family shouldnt copy it in the hope of looking cool and faking a big balled image.

Senna has a blue top to his helmet, so it shouldn't be a problem, and like you said they're in different cars: Schumacher only adjusted his design once he was in the same team as Barrichello.

So should Michele Alboreto, Anthony Davidson, Derek Daly, Pedro Diniz, Jean Alesi et al have changed their designs, which were derived from those of other drivers?

Let's save ourselves some time:

-Lewis copied Senna!
-No he didn't!
-Yes, it's blatantly aparent.
-He just used the Grenada flag colours. Troll.
-I thought he was British?
-No, his grandparents are from Grenada.
-So why is the whole of Britain up his ***?
-Because they're patriot, nothing wrong with that
-Spanish people are best, we do nothing wrong.
-Teflonso, anyone?
-He know nothing.
-His *** got whooped by a rookie.
*Arrow creates new cleverly named username*
-They DREW FFS!!!!
-Erm, no, Lewis was 2nd.
-Not very impressive given his preferential treatment...
-Eh...

I thought the blue top on Rubens' helmet was the change, but Im 24 and at that time I was probably only like 15... been a long time

I know it only applies for the same team, but with Bruno's last name and its history w/ mc, I dont think it'd be hard to see him driving for them, shall he deliver good results (I'm still a bit skeptical, but I hope he does).

Lewis probably believes he has more genetic connection with Ayrton Senna that Bruno Senna does, therefore, in the unlikely event lewis and Bruno should find themself in the same team, I reckon Lewis will claim its his call.

I don't think he'll be fast enough to be focus of interest during the races anyway. Unless they build him a very good car which I have no faith in atm. I'd be very suprised if any of the new teams can do what Brawn GP did this year. :p

You're a blatant fake.

You don't even know the reason for the yellow helmet, it's not Senna; http://www.asiaone.c...070723-844.html

Also the yellow colour is not owned exclusively by the Sennas. It's free to use for everyone.

so Sennas own copyright to yellow helmets now.... dumb thread

by the way, Massa uses a yellow one, Barichello n I believe Webber too

long as Bruno Senna isnt joining Mclaren or any team with a yellow "helmeted" driver, he can use whatever helmet color he wants

A. Senna and L Hamilton's helmet may be close in concept and Lewis has stated that he switched to yellow to be more visible for his dad to see and as a tribute to his favorite driver, but in the colors of the Grenadian flag more than the lime lemon yellow of Senna's
So there is no Copyright issue to be discussed

I see as a tribute to his favorite driver and I have no problem with that.
I actually think it's quite strange some people making comments about both helmets being totally unrelated and even being pissed about mentions of it's similarities.
It's Senna's helmet concept for Christ sake, with the Grenadian colors and an stylization with folded bands.

Think on the blue band, if it wasn't folded/bended it would make the same path as the Senna's. That along with the red band is Hamilton's customization. It adds a different feeling to the helmet when we look at it's front. And I'm fine with it, kind of like it.

Maybe if Lewis painted some big balls on his helmet, or hung a stuffed set fuzzy dice style in his cockpit, would that make him and his big old copycat helmet cool in your book?

Seriously though, who cares if he has a yellow helmet? He was crazy about Senna as a kid. His family's from Grenada. Yellow makes sense.

It's not even the same shade of yellow as Senna's. If people are going to get their knickers in a knott over yellow helmet designs then I guess Massa and Webber better change theirs. And how Ralf got away with his for so many years I'll never know. :rotfl:

So.. the Senna's have very similar helmets, and Hamilton's doesn't resemble either of them in any way at all, except the yellow. Personally that makes this a non-issue.

Even if Lewis did copy Sennas helmet....who cares, he was a child when he chose those colours and what up and coming karter didnt want to be like Senna...he has used that helmet for years he shouldnt have to change it. Besides Brunos helmet has a blue on the top so it shouldnt be too hard to tell them apart.

Yellow, and parallel blue and green bands/stripes.
Blue from the driver's nape to the drivers nose.
Green from the back of the driver's skull to the visor, above the visor's fixation to the helmet.

That's Ayrton's design. It's important to notice the way the blue and green colors are placed.

Both Bruno and Lewis have a spin on this design.

Bruno's has the blue area on top of the helmet, and the blue and green bands are not straight lines.
Bruno have raced with a red sponsorship band on the same place of Hamilton's white sponsorship (Mercedes) band.

Hamilton has the blue and the green bands on the same fashion as Ayrton. But the his blue band is interrupted by an additional red one (from Grenadine's flag).
If you take out the red band and try to trace the blue band's path, you see the original Ayrton's helmet design. The bigger differentiation is the interruption of the blue band, not going to the 'face' of the helmet in Hamilton's design.

Whereas Badoer enjoys Mustard.

Why not make a less similar stripe pattern then!?

Posted Image

Posted Image

As you see from the other drivers, eg. Kubica or Fisichella or Webber or Raikkonen or Button or Barrichello design... there are many more radical ways to put the stripes in order for there to be no similarity at all.

It is clear that Lewis has deliberately put a green stripe around the top 1/3 of the helmet and a blue stripe around the bottom 1/3 of the helmet, and then modified Senna's design a little by breaking the stripes up and adding a small red stripe.

Why not put vertical stripes instead to avoid similarity?

Given his recent comments (about wanting to make his own mark in F1 - it was an autosport news article from last week or two) I think Bruno Senna would be doing himself a disservice holding on to his uncle's helmet colors. He should use a switch to something else to his liking as an opportunity to drive home his own point. I don't like that Hamilton uses it (simply because I think it's unoriginal, same as Piquet Jr's), but it would make more sense for Bruno Senna to make the switch.

Ignore the vodafone bit - that is compulsary.

Can you not note the remainder of the design is a modified version of Senna's design, he has changed the stripes so they don't go all the way round and modernised it with extra shading and added the little red stripe.

The design is heavily influenced by the Senna/McLaren association.

Because he doesn't have to. His helmet design reflects him and his own personality, not your wishes or those of anyone else. If that personality is to be as much like his boyhood hero as possible and show little originality I guess that's a cross he'll have to bear. It's not a bad ambition to have, and so far he's not doing too badly is he?

Why is Senna's helmet design, on which Hamilton's is unquestionably based, sacred?

I always thought Hamilton using an iconic trademark helmet design of a dead great driver is extremely disrespectful and arrogant. I would think the same if any driver used it. There is simply no need to use that design other than trying to imitate Senna. Get your own design rather than trying to be a tryhard Senna.

It reflects Senna, the same guy Hamilton has repeatedly tried to compare himself to. He has made no secret that hes trying to walk in senna's footsteps, but he could have done it with a bit more taste and class than ripping off his helmet. That design should be sacred out of respect for a fallen great, but respect is something the Hamiltons obviously dont know much about.

There's a fine line between tribute & rip-off, & your view of that line probably changes as you get older & have some success of your own. This is very similar to LeBron James in the NBA right now, saying he will stop wearing number 23, in honor of Michael Jordan:

http://sportsillustr...0260/index.html

"LeBron to switch numbers as Jordan tribute

CLEVELAND (AP) - LeBron James wants NBA players to give up their No. 23s to honor of Michael Jordan.

The Cavaliers superstar, who has worn 23 since he was a high school sophomore, says players should pay tribute to Jordan for the Hall of Famer's long-lasting impact on the game.

[...]

James said he's willing to make the switch and he wants to start a petition to get every player in the league to give up their numbers."

Lewis started out as a kid with a helmet that was a tribute to his hero, but now that he's won a world championship on his own & created his own legacy, and his old hero's own nephew is entering the sport, maybe it's time to create his own look...
