Any new fans of Mercedes GP

If Brawn should treat Button with no respect - Button fans would be stupid to support them. Oh and it looks like Mercedes would be getting lots of fans from McLaren too.
Anyone crossing over to join the silver arrows?

Whoever Button signs with though I think I'll struggle to feel the same way about Brawn/Merc as I have for the last few years.

Brawn GP fans are mainly fans cuz of Button. Anyway, looks like Button is gonna get the chop and be replaced by the German Nico.. So what happens to the Brawn GP fans. DO they stay or do they go?

Brawn GP has plenty of fans, as does Ross Brawn. I'd like them to pay Button what he's after, or close enough to it that he's happy to sign, but other than that they did a remarkably good job this year and deserve the credit for it. Ross worked wonders with a team which previously only created shitboxes. Good for them.Brawn GP fans are mainly fans cuz of Button.

Mercedes are now my "B" team, behind McLaren. I don't really understand why they would leave such a great situation with McLaren and take on the risk of having their own team, but I support their efforts as a company.
I also have infinite respect for Ross Brawn.

I was a fan of Brawn GP mainly because of Ross Brawn, the guy's a genius.

Like the respect Jenson showed to Williams?

That said, Having followed BAR/Honda/Brawn since Jenson moved there in 2003 so I'll probably retain some sort of secondary support for them if Button does move elsewhere.

Would I be correct in thinking you don't like McLaren?

In any case, they haven't severed ties completely. McLaren and Brawn have swapped roles for next season in terms of relationship with Merc.

Ferrari anyone
Well, Mercedes were Grand Prix racing long before Ferrari....

Posted 16 November 2009 - 21:04
As for Merc Works, it depends on how much the media here decide to remind us that this is the former Brawn champions and all that ****. They'll probably never shut up about the 2009 season so I'll probably end up hating Merc Works as I did Brawn, but that level of hate depends on their success too
The Media influence me alot in terms of who I like and hate. Generally in the opposite sense.

Is that what prestige means? Because on that basis Renault have the most.

Yes, I would say Renault also have a degree of racing prestige. However it takes more than longevity. Drivers, races won, how the team presents itself (Mercedes V Auto Union)- it all adds up over the years. Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Renault and Williams are all teams with prestige.

What is Haug's role next season? With Brawn remaining as team principal it's not as if Haug is being rewarded with a promotion for all his years of service to Mercedes.

It makes a ton of sense for them too, if Raikkonen's wish is to go to Redbull in a year or two, then it means he would possibly the correct bait to swap for Vettel.

This

At least now I have two teams to support. Lewis will always be the go to guy. I really like Nico as well, and Heidfeld hasnt gotten the break he deserves. I'd love for the Mercedes works team to sign Heidfeld and he wins a race or 3 next year, as long as Lewis is WDC it'll be cool

I've been cheering for the team since 1999 when the drivers were Villeneuve and Zonta. Seeing as Button didn't join the team till 2003, I disagree with your premise.

I cheered for BAR. I cheered for Honda. I cheered for Brawn GP. I'll cheer for Mercedes GP. Villeneuve's former race engineer Jock Clear is still with the team so I still feel a connection exists from the dark days.

I'd say I'll be a fan because they were Brawn GP; I was a fan of Brawn because Buttondrove for them and I've followed Button since 2000. If Button goes to McLaren, I'll support him, but I feel McLaren has no soul and so they won't be getting any love. Mercedes will become my team while Button will stay as my driver.

The second most successful grand prix team ever has no soul? I fear drivers like James Hunt, Lauda, Prost, Senna, Keke Rosberg, Hakkinen, Alonso, Raikkonen & Hamilton will massively disagree with you. That list has some of the best drivers grand prix racing has ever produced, and you know one thing they all have in common? They're all world champions. True, some of them didnt win their championships with Mclaren, but this is the caliber of driver Mclaren have fielded in the past. Remind me again of the great names BAR/Honda/Brawn have fielded. Thanks. For Mclaren to consider... or to put it bluntly, resort to Button, as he isn't their first choice seeing as they would rather take a driver that was sacked from his former team, over the current world champion says a LOT about what they think of Buttons ability. But hey, what do I know. Im just some faceless internet poster. Let the facts & history speak for themselves.

I didn't want this to happen. I trust McLaren to do a good job. But now that it did happen. I will support MercGP to the death. (But please fellas. Don't do a BMW. You're better than that...)

Go Merc!
Achtung Baby!
EDIT:
As an aside. I'd have loved for merc to call it Merc AMG GP. Hey, now that I come to think of it, does anyone think we'll see AMG badging on the...uhm...what will they call the car?

I've always thought of McLaren as being one of Ferrari's greatest rivals long before Mercedes came into the picture,so the silver arrow-McLaren connection has never worked for me (thought the Marlboros were better). Having all three of them on the grid is certainly fantastic, therefore, and the way it ought to have been!

just because they are not your favorite team or you feel threatened by them doesnt mean you can go'head and spew such bull.
Its ironic you attack Mclaren about soul in a thread of a team that went from Tyrell to BAR to Honda to Brawn and now Merc GP. Like someone in another thread said, you can call them the paddock whore.
oh and the team only got to this stage because Mclaren did the sporting 'soul' thing and allowed Merc to supply them with engines when no one else wanted to
Ron Dennis n co could have easily done the 'soulless' thing, sell Mclaren to Mercedes and flown into the sunset wih a plane of cash...but time and time again, they resisted the takeover attempts and its only cos Mercedes realised they were never gonna get the paddock dime they decided to settle for the paddock *fill in the word*
someone has already talked bout the Mclaren heritage of drivers...more, they were the team that decided to put faith in a 12 yr old kid of african descent in a sport totally dominated by white males, nurture him, put him in the car...oh and he won a WDC while at it (no affirmative action here)
even in things like sponsorship...they have some of the longest running partners in F1 history
we can go on and on as to why ur remark is utter trite but this aint the place for it
basically if Mclaren is soulless, then all the other teams on the grid bar Ferrari are as hollow n pointless as a old box filled wit cobwebs
I have nothing against Merc. GP by the way...yes wont be a fan, but excited at the prospect of what they can do over the next years... hope they dont do a BMW once the results dont start coming in.

Only someone supremely ill informed on the history of F1 would perceive Mclaren as "soulless". The idea is laughable. Only Ferrari can claim to have a richer heritage, with Williams in a not so close third. The ghost of Ken Tyrrell has long since departed the halls of the current Brawn GP/Mercedes team. I'm glad they had a new identity in Ross, as he is a legend in his own right, however, MGP/Silver Arrows will start its own history anew in the new epoch of grand prix racing.
Lol I feel all "Shakespeary" after that rant

Brawn GP fans are mainly fans cuz of Button.
There is an interesting editorial in this month's EVO magazine where the writer queries the sanity of those F1 fans who support a Team rather than a Driver; he theorises that he can at least understand driver fans as they bring a human element to the sport; and but for Ferrari, he cannot comprehend team fanaticism or support.
I for one am in an absolute dilemma. I have always been a Honda fan both from a road car and F1 perspective; with my fanaticism being derived a) from the company's and founder's previous love of motorsport; and b) the innovative roadcars that they brought through NSX, TYpe-Rs - where the joy of revving a car to 8000rpm+ first started. I admit they definitely hit a hump recently not only in F1 (with the pull out), but also in their roadcar division having dropped all driver vehicles from their lineup.
I was an avid supporter this year of Brawn, in recognition of the Honda team DNA that was still in this year's car/chassis not withstanding the Merc-engine being installed - and it was a joy to see Button finally come through. Now however, I am in an utter dillema with Mercedes Benz acquiring this team - I just cannot bring myself to continue to support them as a manufacturer team as there is no way I would be purchasing one of their vehicles ever (perhaps an old gull wing)!!!
Such a complicated time it is..

I can't imagine a football fan dropping his team in order to follow his favourite player from team to team.
