Id have to say my fav is the 1996 Williams-Renault, even though i rooted for MSC at the time.

for honorable mention id say the "Bitten and Hisses" Jordans were cool too.

The Ligiers often had beautiful liveries, eg. this JS11/15. Pre-sponsorship Ferraris, Maseratis, Bugattis etc.

if memory serves correct, the reason they had to "combine" paint schemes was because the original intent was to have two different looking cars?

the JPS Lotus seems to be the consensus at this point, the one question i have is why?

was it the pure black or was it the car you grew up rooting for?

i also like the Jackie Stewart driven Tyrells

The JPS, obviously. But the Scarab and Eagle had gorgeous paintjobs as well.

For me it's purely the black/gold colour scheme I just really like it... nothing to do with seeing it racing... I was 6 the last time Lotus drove with the JPS livery! (1986)

There's just something about black liveries that I like... another one being the BAR Honda test livery in 1994:

Yeah. In their individual liveries the launch showcars looked really cool. The combined thing though... well, different I guess. First new team for a while too if I remember correctly, it was quite exciting off season 98-99

which makes sense considering the team was rebranded Honda, which also had the Earthdreams paint job. very progressive paint schemes.

This pic shows two great paint schemes:

I also have loved the 'silver arrows' McLarens:

And the BMW Williams:

and the Rothmans Wiiliams

lots of others..

Martini Racing red Brabham Alfa's certainly deserve a spot here.

But there are many, many others. Some of them listed already (White/Yellow/Black Elf Renaults, Gitanes Ligier). I always like the March/Leyton House livery as a kid, too, don't know why. I wouldn't call it beautiful, but there's something about it.

For me it must be something about black! - 1: JPS Lotus. 2: `The` Black Arrows. 3: Any Black Minardi. 4: Sauber C13 Tissot. If it means picking `colours` then the 7Up Jordan, Blue Ligiers, Ragno Arrows, B&H Jordans and Martini Brabhams. For artwork/one offs it would have to include the Samson Shadow, Yellow (Marlboro Lights) and white Mclarens, amongst others!! Will have to get some of my old albums out....

Benetton in 2001 (horrible car, but bluer than ever)
Ferrari in 1991 (corsa rosso at its best)
Ferrari in 2007 (mmm... metallic red with with Marlboro stripes)
Marlboro McLaren ('nuff said)
Rothmans Williams
Camel Lotus (never since has yellow looked so good).

And the noise it made.

I was never a Lotus fan, I simply think that the relative simplicity, the colors matching, nothing overstated, nothing garish, nothing over done.

I am as far as I recall have always been a Ferrari fan, but they never had a livery which was as good as the 1970ies Lotus Black and Gold JPS.

While I was growing up in the 1970ies, I think that a huge number of boys became fans of racing because of THAT livery, I seriously think that it is way beyond anything ever done before or since, and I find is so good that it should rank very high on a list of "greatest PR campaigns ever".
