Bob Garretson (born September 8, 1933) is a retired American racing driver.

Garretson was the owner-driver of a Porsche 935 sports car team named Garretson Developments in the early 1980's that competed part-time in both the World Sportscar Championship and IMSA GT Championship. In 1981 along with veteran Brian Redman and Bobby Rahal Garretson won the 24 Hours of Daytona. Despite not winning another race that season, Garretson won the 1981 World Endurance Championship for Drivers title. He sold the team and retired from racing shortly thereafter.

Perhaps anyone knows something about Bob Garretson? What is he doing now? How can I reach him? Perhaps has anyone has a postal address? I just want to send him a letter and ask for his autograph. Every help is very much appreciated. Please send me a PM or an email. Thank you. Regards from Vienna - Alfred

I read that he moved to England back in the 1980s, I believe. Does anyone know why, and what he's been doing since then?

Jack.

Yes, Bob lives in England, but I have no address for him. He seems to spend most of his time messing about with old and interesting Porsches. He's usually at the annual Porsche literature swap meet in Los Angeles; if I see him there (in March) I'll ask for his address. Meanwhile, someone in British Porsche circles could probably help you.

Met him a few years ago in Melbourne at a lunch was here for a Porsche 356 meeting. Was surprised that anyone would remember him, to which I said "Did you not win daytona or Sebring"
Nice guy to spend a lunch with and ask questions of and get down to earth answers.

Lovely chap, proper American gentleman. Raced in PCGB races a couple of times in the early 90s, amazingly knowledgable about Porsches.

The year he won the championship with Redman & Rahal, I sat for hours at the apex of the GreenPark chacain at Sebring and watched with amazement the unique attitudes that they put that 935 through during the rase. After dark the flames out the back of that car where something to behold ! and the sound just can't be duplicated to this day.......I wish him well

Very sad to learn of Bob Garretson's passing. As has been said, he was a true gentleman, an honest and fair driver, as well as being bloody quick ! And when he had had enough he went off and did what he enjoyed.

I was lucky enough to meet him a few times in 1981, when I was working for Preston Henn on his 935. We had some good chats, and I especially remember one in the Kentagon at Brands Hatch, when a few pints of "warm" English Ale were consumed, and some great stories about some other drivers were forthcoming !

Sincere condolences to all his family and many, many friends.

RIP Bob.
