Hi,
Alfisti gave me an idea, to introduce myself to the forum.
William is my name and I'm a 14 yr old High School Student. My age may be low but my knowledge of motor racing (F1 in general) is exceptional. Did I forget to mention my modesty I've learnt much from many of the books I have at home, have F1 Grand Prix's from every season since 1988, tapes of every Bathurst since 1987, ATCC Rounds since 1987, and something that has proved very useful and informative to me - both volumes of Shell's History of Motorsport. I am definitely not old enough to remember the likes of Nuvolari, father and son Ascari, Carraciola, Fangio or even Gilles Villeneuve, this video has helped me a lot.
I've competed in a couple of 8W competitions and got a couple of why-of-the-months, which I am quite proud of. I've learnt so much from all the people at this forum in my now frequent visits. I hope I can contribute some useful information.
And so to my first question, can anyone give me any pictures or stories about Paul Hawkins, and Aussie driver of the 60's who was most noted in Europe for crashing a Lotus into the Harbour at Monaco in 1965. My dad was a friend of his in Melbourne, and I was wondering if anyone here could help?

You're very welcome, William. It's nice that such a young man actually cares about the heritage of the sport. And I like your modesty
If you can put up with us old fogeys, you can get a lot of information here. And there are plenty of your fellow Aussies around, so ask all you like about Australian drivers - I won't be able to help much being a mere Pom, but there are plenty who will!

William, welcome to the Forum. Glad to have you here. I sense that you come here leaded for bear, as they say... I, for one, am delighted to see someone your age join us as we stroll along our way here.

The Australian magazine "Motor Racing Australia" recently did a two piece article on Paul Hawkins racing career, inlcuding lotsa pics of that gorgeos Lola T70 (love those 60s/70s Sports cars) Did you write that one Ray? I'll try and dig it out for you.

No, that wasn't my doing at all. I hardly met Hawkins, he only raced here twice that I saw, the Surfers 12-hour and a Warwick Farm meeting in the Lola T70 coupe.
I can tell you, his head was as rough as his voice.
I thought that Monaco dip was earlier...
