
1980 Spanish GP

in 1980 the spanish gp was sopose to be a world championship
race event which was planed to be raced after gp and
because the drivers refused to pay fines from Zolder dispute
and FISA declared non-championship and illegal, I do know
that the spanish gp is again one of those fisa - foca disputes which has been seen in the past as in san marino 1982 , and Ferrari, Renault and Alfa Romeo boycotted race. now I have listed following result in my webpage
can anybody help me finish the result ? and any other info
that might not be know to the world.

I can add a little more stuff about the F1 race held at Jarama on 1 June 1980.
First of all, it was the first (and only?) illegal F1 race from the inception of the WDC, because was raced outside the FISA organisation, only under the RACE (Real Automóvil Club de España) control.
The first practice session, on friday 30 May, was the only lawful one, with seven cars in the track: the Reanults, the Alfa Romeos, the Ferraris and Emilio de Villota at the wheel of his Williams -not being a FOCA member. The results were,
1st.) René Arnoux, Renault RE24, 1'13"90
2nd.) Bruno Giacomelli, Alfa Romeo N179, 1'14"63
3rd.) Gilles Villeneuve, Ferrari 312T5, 1'15"63
4th.) Jody Scheckter, Ferrari 312T5, 1'15"79
5th.) Vittorio Brambilla, Alfa Romeo N179, 1'17"92
6th.) Emilio de Villota, Williams Ford FW07, 1'17"95
7th.) Jean-Pierre Jabouille, Renault RE23, 1'18"67
After this session, the race was stated as illegal by the FISA, so the FISA-faithful teams went back home, remaining on the circuit the FOCA members and Emilio de Villota.

For a long time, I am asking myself which number Vittorio Brambilla use during this "GP", in fact only during the tests.
Was it the #24 or #35.
If there is a spanish formula 1 fan on this, can he help me ? May be with a picture of Vitt at Jarama on the Alfa Romeo.

Lammers was in the race either in front of Jones or close behind him (don't remember that) before falling victim of another of those penny-wise ATS defects.

So the Ferrari, Renault and Alfa Romeo teams never turned a wheel at Jarama on the 1st June 1980 Spanish GP weekend of the race, despite getting as far as the pits and getting fully kitted up and ready to roll hence there will be no on track photo's :-)
Unless some one knows something different :-)
Any one have any pics of Giacomelli on track in his Alfa Romeo 179 at Jarama in 1981 ?

The first practice session on Friday morning was attended only by Alfa Romeo, Renault, Ferrari, and Emilio de Villota until it was stopped at 10:32 h.
Fastest times were (according to Heinz Prüller’s yearbook): Arnoux 1.13,896; Giacomelli 1.14,665; Villeneuve 1.15,638; Scheckter 1.15,802; Brambilla 1.18,007; Jabouille 1.18,734.
“Grand Prix international” magazine published slightly different times: Arnoux 1.13,90; Giacomelli 1.14,63; Villeneuve 1.15,63; Scheckter 1.15,79; Brambilla 1.17,92; Villota 1.17,95 (no sign of him at Prüller’s); Jabouille 1.18,67.

For those thinking of checking at racingsportscars.com you will draw a blank no mention of Brambilla and the Programme, which also makes no mention of Brambilla, is so sketchy it has mixed up the photo of the Marlboro McLarens with the Marboro Alfa Romeos see :-

One odd thing I have noticed is that neither Pruller or GPI make any mention of Patrick Depailler's times, in the newspaper photo post #13 we can see Vitorio Brambilla clearly standing on the #22 car can any one confirm the Patrick was actually at the 1980 Spanish GP ? DSJ mentions in contemporary Motor Sports that forces were at work within Autodelta to field a third car for Brambilla and this is the only race where it appears this might have happened had it not been for the contemporary politics.
AUTOCOURSE 1980/81 shows a photo of Patrick and Bruno on a motorbike (IN RACE OVERALLS) at the Spanish GP.

As a Dutchman, I remember that this race was another "what-if" one:
Lammers was in the race either in front of Jones or close behind him (don't remember that) before falling victim of another of those penny-wise ATS defects.
Jan was running sixth from the start and doing so quite quickly actually. A ""what if" indeed, as given his lap times he was going places. He eventually retired with a gearbox problem.

Not sure how you got that sonar, I thought the old 1980 style wings must date it earlier in the season, but looking at the you tube clip (@ 1m 44 secs) of the 1981 Austrian GP I can see your right :-)

I will check my 1980/81 Autocourse to see what number Vitt was meant to use when I get home tonight
RacingSportsCars.com says Vittorrio was entered in the #35 for the 1980 Spanish GP.
