Lea Gourlay finished 2nd overall in the International post classic race at Phillip Island to Steve Martin whom i'm led to believe had about another 30+bhp over Lea's Winfield XR69 Suzuki, he also won all his races on his own TZ350 and also broke the lap record by about 1 second, he was about 4 secs a lap quicker than the 2nd placed guy!!!!!
He races Roger Winfields Paton at Pukakhoe NZ in 2 weeks time.

That one accident aside, it was otherwise a great weekend for all concerned : plenty of new talent, and plenty of quick old talent...

Philip Island has to be the best circuit in the World now, its not been ruined by alterations for eff1 like many of the classic European circuits have, (Monza, Hockenheim!! Silverstone etc etc!!)

Looking through the results it shows a lot of riders on GSX1100 powered bikes, I can't understand why WERA won't allow them in a fair class here in the USA, they only allow 4 valvers to 1025cc in Superbike which rules out a whole lot of entries. Eligible against GSXR1100s and FZs etc so no contest and pointless running one!

Looked like a brilliant meeting on a great circuit

Apologies for the delay, Gra, I tried another forum but came up empty-handed. However today I contacted Keith Higgs, who informed me that Steve is in the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, with broken ribs, femur, and collarbone, and a punctured lung. The femur and collarbone have been plated. Steve's wife has flown over to be with him, and he's in good spirits.
Yeowch ! Poor bugger.
Let's hope he makes a speedy recovery Glenn

No speeds though....think it's an Aussie thing. In the seventies, unlike here were riders were given results, times, speed, Oz organisers gave you jack ****.
Yes, best wishes to Steve Maney from me too.

Do you mean lap average speeds, or trap speeds, Russell ?
I meant race and lap speeds GD, but trap speeds would be good too.

I might run it by them, it'd be quite interesting to keep an eye on.
But you're right mate, they don't normally publish it...

Thanks for that Glenn, my wishes to Steve for as quick a recovery as possible.
Hi Graham
I,ve been asked a lot over the last few days for news on Steve Maney - trawling through the internet hasn't brought up ant fresh news - I know all of the guys are back home as Mr Chapman bumped into Phil Godfrey who didn't know the current situation on Steve either.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on how he's mending
Thanks in advance....
John

But he sounds in good spirits, and is full of beans.
Why not drop him a line through his website and pass on your regards ?

I have been corresponding with Steve through his website, he flew back to England on February 16th and was back at work on the 22nd. His injury list included six broken ribs, punctured and collapsed lung, broken leg and a broken clavicle, which had bone grafted from his thigh.
But he sounds in good spirits, and is full of beans.
Why not drop him a line through his website and pass on your regards ?
Cheers GD.
Cheers GD
I'll pass the info around to the boys and ping Steve an email........
Sounds like he had a lucky escape as the injuries sound a bit similar but not quite as bad as Stu Melling had at Snetterton last year, News is that Stu is recovering well but he still rckons his race days as a rider are over, such a shame to loose that talent from the track......
Thanks again for the update
