Okay guys and gorls who have been to the Australian Grand Prix before, tell me which Grandstand is the best, and why. Ideally I would like to sit in the spot where most overtaking attempts occur(and of course are successful attempts). The most expensive Grandstand is $528 for the 4 days, and this is not an issue for me.
This is the only info I could get from the official site. Currently I'm leaning towards getting seats in the Jones Stand.
Thanks in Advance

I have been to all of the Melbourne GPs and I usually use the Fangio stand.
It doesn't have a lot of passing but you get the start of the races the pits and there is a bunch of restaurants at the back of the stand that have pretty good tucker.
I am pretty sure that Jones and Brabham Stands are close to the restaurants too
Cheers

Been to both the Brabham and Senna before.
Both are excellent seats.
The Senna provides excellent viewing as cars take different
lines onto the straight and they try to maximise their speed on the straight. Also the pit entrance give you a slow moving car to take a nice snap shot. Try and get your seat to the far right of the stand. Heh saw Mika drive it into the wall on this corner.
Brabham stand is good as well as they break hard and somtimes go wide and onto the grass. This is nice view
and u can really see who pushes!. Lots of cars go off here.
Screen is good but cant read the text.. unless u have binoculors. Also it didnt help that a %$#@ camera crane was blocking the view. Heh that got shifted quicksmart as u dont pay half a grand to get a obstructed view.
Think im gonna go for Senna stand this year.. anybody notice the price of tickets going higher and higher?

I always sit in Fangio, it's getting more and more expensive at the first two corners. Infact, if my memory serves me correct, in 1997, Brabham and Fangio were only about $400!

I'm wondering if in choosing a seat, one has to make compromises. Coz I want the following.
1.I want to see how fast the cars go at their top speed for the circuit.
2.I want to see them accelerating from a slow speed.
3.I want to see them braking just before a corner, to see how late they leave it.
4.I want to see attempts at overtaking.
I guess I can't get all four, in the one spot, or can I???

I think you can get the general admission ticket and just walk around anywhere on the circuit from what ive heard. Might want to consider that if having no seat doesnt bother you.

Are tickets outside the US really that expensive or is it an F1 thing? A few years ago it was $90 for 4 days of CART at Elkhart Lake/Road America

Nik,
I would also suggest spending some time at Brocky's Hill at the second chicane on the back part of the course.
You should get most of those criteria you list and its a general admission area
cheers

Nik,
Keep dreamin man. My advice to you is to get tickets in a place where the cars are under acceleration. Where they are just getting on the power. This way you will be in good view of the braking zone, and you can feel the power of em right in front of you as they hammer the throttle. And most importantly you will be able to hear the engines. DO NOT get tickets in a raw braking zone. I had that in CART, and I was regreting it all weekend cause I never got to hear the engines at full workrate. Racecars are not to be heard from even a short distance. You MUST be able to hear it as it is right in front of you, anything else is not worth it.
The good thing about this type of seat is that there are enough sessions that you can just pick on to go into a General admission area along the pit straight so you can see the cars at top speed. This is good cause after ya will see it for bout an hour it will lose it's luster, and for the majority of the weekend you will be able to say you saw the cars working in the braking zone and under accelartion, as they were going slowly, but that you also experienced them at top speed once. So you can say you did everything.
Thats my advice.
