The Arrows FA1, 1978

In particular I am looking for the technical details’ photos, scans (and a cutway?? if it exists).
I always liked that car and thought it was a great car, so much so that the following A1 - modified after the famous Shadow law suit - was not as good.
I remember Autosprint at the time published a series of pictures of the car (front and rear suspension, side pods, chassis, etc); unfortunately I don’t have my collection anymore, lost in moving house to the UK.
It was designed by the great designer Tony Southgate, author of a number of effective and beautiful cars (BRM, Lotus, all the most beautiful Shadows, even an Osella with a beautiful front suspension, the Jaguar Group C, Ferrari Barchetta and many others) and I am looking forward to read his announced book.
Any information would really be greatly appreciated.

I doubt that very much. The four chassis built and all infringing parts (about two-fifths of the design) were ordered to be destroyed.I am also looking into historic racing, there was an FA1 in the US circuit sometime ago, but now it looks like it has disappeared.

My 2p worth. I have seen (quite a while ago) the bits & pieces of the Arrows cars at one of Don's shops. Memory fades, but there is something about my conversation with Don, about the Arrows bits making ready to go spares for the Shadows.
Cheers,
Steve

Greetings Regazzoni,Steve, thanks to clarify, I had read that he used the Arrows as spare parts for the Shadows, probably he had left enough to sell a complete car.
I sent you a pm.
Cheers,
Steve

I've heard about another A1 that has recently been purchased. Not sure if it will be racing or not. There is a A1 competing in Historics in Europe.
It's a real shame the first FA1 no longer exisits. The whole Shadow/Arrows story is wrapped up in that car, and while the results don't look too impressive on paper it certainly made an impact in South Africa, and could so easily have been a race winner.

IIRC, the car in the photos was purchased from Mr. Nichols several years ago.
Also, there is a cutaway in the Sal Incandela (sp?) F1 book of an Arrows FA1, that may be actually a Shadow DN9A, as I thought one difference between the two siblings was the water heat exchanger (radiator) is in the nose of the Shadow, where on the Arrows the oil cooler was in the nose.

There is / was an FA1 running in vintage events here in the U.S. I think it's still in Arizona. Here is a link to At Speed Images
To my untrained eye that looks like an Arrows A1 rather than a FA1.

This is Stommelen's Kyalami FA1, although hiding any significant details underneath. Thanks for the pictures Hansfohr. Any Arrows' picture taken during the South African GP 1978 is welcome, but I am particularly keen to see pictures of the technical details under the car body and the sidepods.
EDIT: check out Patrese's website for numerous Kyalami pics: http://riccardopatre...og/?page_id=342

You're welcome Regga! I won't hesitate to dig up more details. Ever spotted this model? http://cashpick.stak...2004/index.htmlNow you're talking!! Thank you very much Hans, this is starting to give me real insight. That's exactly the kind of details I'm looking for. The general shape of a car is a relatively easy and feasible thing to do. Few details can be borrowed from other cars' details of the same period (Cosworth, Hewland etc). But there are peculiar details that each car has and must be looked at rather than guessed and this kind of pictures do exactly that. The rear bulkhead, the sidepods open, the suspensions. Detailing in scale modeling is everything. If you find more don't be shy. Thank you again, really appreciated. What is the complete title of the Schwab F1 annual?
Ulrich Schwab's annual is simply titled 'Grand Prix 1978'.
