I've got formula 1 97 and am thinking about getting something newer, better perhaps. What is the best f1 simulator these days (for pc)

it might be either Grand Prix 3 by legendary designer Geoff Hammond or F1 2000 by EA Sports. I have played the demo version of GP3 and i am hooked. and i heard that while F1 2000's graphics are better, you really need a machine like a PIII with about 700 MHZ.

GP3 is awful and F12000 isn't much better. Grand Prix Legends is the best simulator bar none - although the West Brothers are working on World Sports Cars which sounds like it might be a GPL-beater.

Over to the Racing Sims forum with this one, I reckon.

Grand Prix Legends.... it's the "only sim" out there. GP3/GP2/F1-2000 and the rest just isn't as realistic as GPL. GPL has THE physics engine to beat, and in my humble opinion the gfx and sound in GPL is great too.

GPL if you want the best simulator, but you get 1967 F1 cars. Still, give it a chance. There's nothing else on the PC like it.

If you really have to have modern F1 cars there are two choices:

F1-2000 (but I'd wait for F12000 Championship Season out at the end of the month). System requirements are high and it has the best physics for a modern simulator

GP3 - System requirements are lower than F12000 and the overall experience (i.e. sense of actually competing in a Grand Prix weekend) is better, and the wet weather effects are awesome. But I feel (as do many others) that the physics aren't as realistic as F12000.

But really, find a copy of GPL if you can. Best bet is to hunt through used game shops and bargain bins cause it's out of print by now.

GPL isn't too hard - it's realistic. If you can't truly drive smoothly and quickly with decent lines then you'll be no good - just like the real thing.

well.. i think it IS hard, but then it just so much more rewarding when you first manage to drive it properly. I don't have a clue how many hours i spendt before i could even think of racing against the computer...

At first I thought it was too hard as well but that is its beauty, especially in on-line races, other people might make mistakes too. I'm still an amateur at the game but my best races have been where I drove at my own pace and picked up the pieces when the other guys crashed out/spun off :)

Its nice to put loads of overtaking moves on people but IMHO GPL is more about being patient rather than aggressive

GPL is the best by far

thanks guys, I have to say I'm better in a real car than on a computor, and thats more to do with the fact I don't use the computor much. I remember when I first tried to install f1 97 my pc stuffed up several times. Something to do with direct-x I recall. Anyway thanks again

Hey I popped into a game shop out of curiosity while waiting to meet someone and the fist thing I came accross was a copy of GPL reduced to AUS$40 which is probably about 5c US by latest reckoning. Anyway I haven't had time to do anything with it yet other than turn it on and try a lap.... Yep, its gonna take some practice. I like the sound of the engines/exhaust. I need to find out how to reverse though because I keep getting stuck on the barriers. I'll let you know when I manage a lap without hitting something.

Well well well. TOCA2 withouta doubt, is the best sim in my opinion. I haven't played GP3, so I can;t comment. But the best non-f1 simulator, is DEFINATELY TOCA2. BUY IT!!!

Dont say that Gran turismo 2 is a sim, it ain't.

I thing that all games excpet GPL and Ferrari 355 are way too easy and unrealistic. Is F1 2000 really good? have not played it so I na not comment it. Toca 2???? Are you serious?? I wouldn`t say it is realistic. So isn`t Gran Turismo 2. the most frustasting thing with it is that no matter what you do you slide every time you corner. i mean that you have no clue when you lose grip. Another thing also is that you have to turn wheel as much as it turns nearly every corner, if you want to drive fast.

If you don't like oversteer(hehehee)then change the settings, and try the simulation tyres...

Well, I actually like oversteer. I tryed to excplain that the overall feeling is that it understeers and have no grip. I hate the way it locks up every single time you brake, no matter what is your set-up. Even in straighs when you try to make SOLID moves, it slides. Unlike in Ferrari 355 you know exactly when you lose grip.
