Hi!
Without any F5000 experience or knowledge of
US-circuits, he took the 1973 Championship.
Then his awesome F1 cv: Scheckter led his
second and third GPs. He would have won at
Ricard in 1973. But Emerson crashed him out.
He was a strong contender for the 1974
Championship-in his first full F1 season !
He conquered the six-wheeler and shone in
the Wolf.
And finally: He had that French Canadian
handled in 1979 !
Scheckter was Stewart`s true successor.
Better than Lauda, Hunt and co.
Who agrees ?
Jody Scheckter - The Best Driver of the late 1970s!

"Double Blue Bollocks"
Jody "just watching" Scheckter was very disappointing in his last season in F1.
As I saw him, a slightly long "flash in the pan".

Villeneuve was head and shoulders above Scheckter as a driver, especially in 1981.
"He had that French-Canadian handled"?!! The term, my dear Island, is "Québecois". And the tone of your posting is disappointingly disrespectful.

Did not Mr. Scheckter cause one big pile up in the British GP that the GPDA was going to ban or at least sit him down for a spell. I saw him drive the P34 at the Glen and thru the side windows you could see a lot of arm movement.

Let an expert have a say - Ken Tyrrell hired him, didn't he?

404, Jody had retired by 1981.
Had Gilles lived today, would most of you rate Gilles as highly as you do now?
Somehow, I think not. Face it, Gilles Villeneuve fans, he could be dynamite one day and look like Deletraz the other. Gilles' inconsistentsy prevented him from beating Scheckter to the 1979 title.
buddyt, Jody was 22 at that time and in his first full season of F1. Mistakes like that are to be expected.
