I am looking for and info and photos of Ford GT40s racing in Canada 1965-1975. I know Comstock Racing, David Greenblatt, Luc Lecomte and possibly others raced at Mont Tremblet, Trois Riveres, Mosport etc and I am willing to buy old programs, photos etc. I would also love to hear any stories or details you might know about any of this.

Thanks, Jay

So far as I know there were no Gt40s racing in period on the Canadian west coast. David Cohen owned 1024 and ran it in vintage races in the nineties.
The late Gerry Benzon owned one of the Lola GTs for many years in Vancouver and rolled it at Westwood in the early eighties. I helped him to get out of the inverted car and then had to persuade him to get back in to turn off the fuel pumps...

Comstock Racing owned and race GT40P-1000 and 1037. 1037 is alive and well and 1000 was wrecked at Sebring 1966 killing the driver and 4 spectators. GT40P-1064 was owned by David Greenblatt who raced cobras and ferarris and probably never raced the GT40 before he sold it to a M Demoulin who got into trouble and sold it to Dr. Lecomte who raced it alot at Trois Riveres and Mt. Tremblat around 1970. He eventualy wrecked it. This is specificly what I am looking for more info about. 1064 sold new to Cobra racer Bob Grossman from Al Grillo Ford in Lynn Ma. It was blue original and then red. Both Comstock cars were white with green stripes.

Actually, the spectators who perished at Sebring in '66 were felled as a result the Andretti-Wester collision which, iirc, occured after sunset. They were also in a restricted area.

Bob McLean's Comstock GT40 shunt was something else again occuring before nightfall.

Ok thanks to a very helpful reader I now know that I need a late 1970 issue of the Canadian Track & Traffic that shows the wrecked GT40P-1064. I am also looking for a race program from the Sept 1970 Trois Rivieres race weekend. I will pay for any copies of these as well as postage.

Ford delivered GT40P's in different blue colours, the 1064 was painted in 'blue mineral'.

You got that right, I'll edit my post. :)

BTW Eppie also competed with #1037 in the Watkins Glen GP, 26. June 1966. He finished 14th and last.

As mentioned before the #1037 GT40 is now owned by Tom Mabey. He has residence in Bountiful/Utah and raced the car in various historic events.

The circuit could be St. Jovite, in the paddock. The lake in the background, cars and campers parked along the lake, and the hill in the background are identical to the circuit today; the gravel paddock in the photo was finally paved three or four years ago when CART first (and last) ran there.

I've seen people regularly swim and fish in the lake during a race weekend; equally I've seen several young men relieve themselves into the lake.
