the legend modes a bit of a joke now, started 1st and purposely dropped to 24th for some excitement, still managed to win on 20% distance in a lotus haha

Yeah, and though people are complaining a lot about the AI... I've had some good races against them. Especially on Legends level they really try to bully you in the brakezone. Yesterday evening I had a scrap with the virtual Massa... I was on the inside line and the bastard just pushed me off the track...

Don't drop to 24th, just start 24th
Monaco is probably the most fun track for overtaking. You can easily get 5 or 6 down at the end of S1 when they stay single file, but into the Casino Square, if you stay with them on Massinet, they swing left and you can dive up the inside on the right. Did a couple of sweet moves there.
I just find that the other cars aren't that fast down the straights, makes tracks like China too easyOne fun thing to do is - in practice - have a soaking wet track and use dry tyres. Its very fun trying to keep on the road

I've raced at Monaco with GPL, GP4, and rFactor, and I always suck there.
Do you race from cockpitview? At Singapore at all corners I can see the apex. (Though it is a very, very hard track). In Monaco I have to turn blind (and late!) all the times.
I made Monaco for GP4, and could get half way around the track without looking at the screen or hitting a wall by the time we were done, must have done bloody thousands of laps....

Sure. But the thing is that in a real racecar you can look at the apex... it's a major flaw in most racegames that cockpitview is a 'neck stuck' position.

There is a 'look to apex' or 'lookahead' setting in rFactor. It's enabled in most mods and you only have to adjust the degree in-game. (between 0 and 100)

Shift2 looks to apex. I can't say it really makes any difference.

So much for simulation.
F1 2010 is not a simulation, we have to be honest about it. But the immersion by virtue of the graphics is stunning.
About looking to apex: I've just modded my rFactor F1 2009 game to do it. It does not help at the moment because the looking is connected to the steering movement. I discovered I make a lot of tiny corrections during entry which makes the head and vision shake. So it's indeed less ideal than I thought.

F1 2010 is not a simulation, we have to be honest about it.
The term "simulation" is heavily abused in gaming. (sony, looking at you)
Sims are actually not fun, they are far too serious for my taste and require OCD to master.
F12010 would be perfect if it were finished or properly supported with bug fixes.

F1 2010 would be perfect if you had a slider ranging from 60 to 130 percent (like in rFactor) with which you can adjust the strength of the AI. I once raced a complete season in the 1979 F1 mod in rFactor, and fine-adjusted the AI very race so my teammate was as quick or a little bit quicker than myself. And I took care that the AI used the same setup as I did.
Per-fect races I got that way. If you had that with the graphics of the 2010 game... mouthwatering!

Ehm no. The AI have different physics than the driver's car. They accelerate faster, are too fast in one corner and too slow in the otther, it just doesn't make sense.

True, but that doens't bother me too much. For instance, in every F1 game I've played the AI cars are ridiculously late brakers in the chicanes... if the overal laptime is equal, you can still have some good races.

Realism? Alonso couldn't overtake Petrov last year, you want that from a console video game? There are plenty of sims out there for those of you who want to follow the car infront for 55 laps, other people like fun - I'm glad codemasters have catered for those people.
That's ok if they are honest about it.
Codemasters weren't, although, it must be said, not as bad as EA.

I agree, but from memory codemasters never said it was going to be a "sim", i remember specifically T4RG4 saying that it wasn't going to be a sim but it was going to have sim aspects included, i can't imagine a console game is ever going to be a sim, its all about mass appeal. Im just fine with it not being a sim because it would be bloody hard trying to drive a fully simmed F1 car, a good, fun but slightly challenging game is fine by me.
I'll stick to Rfactor and GTR evo for my sim action and use F1 when i want some good ol' fun.

Are you struggling in terms of Force Feedback (codemasters FFB code has been utter S**** since dirt) or in terms of the 'wheel in car' not turning as much as you are? To be very honest it didnt feel great with my xbox360 wheel either. Try turning the weight up just a little, might help in the slower stuff.

The force feedback is there, I just have no knowledge of how to set the wheel up.
The car/driver doesn't seem to have much steering lock - around 180. Is this normal.
Also, I can't find anywhere outside the game where I can adjust settings - I downloaded software from logitech.com, and I though there was a way of playing with the settings outside of games?

You have to download the logitech profiler software. In there you can adjust the rotation of your wheel.
The second hand wheel came with no software, so I downloaded "Logitech Gaming Software" from the logitech website.
I can't seem to find Logitech profiler software anywhere though; does anyone have any hints? (noob)

Haven't done much racing offline, that's for noobs and the race I had the AI seems to suck on even the hardest setting. I don't mean pace, I mean the braking points are in the wrong spots and the speed of the lap is wrong vs a human driver.
I've been doing some time trials against ghost cars though and making setups for each track to race online (having 30 secs to setup your car SUCKS). The setups react alot better then expected, some of the tracks like Spa the top speed is too high but overall.. the mechanical grip, the aero and the way the car feels through different tracks is really impressive. Condering it's not a sim. You can go crazy on engine braking (no engine blow or rear lock) and there is no diff settings to adjust for it.. so that makes braking a bit easier but overall it's good.
You might feel like the even with no TC the car feels stable but as you trim the setup to make the car have the optimum time on low fuel it does get very twitchy on the throttle. That's with new tyres, it's even worse when they are heavily worn. It's just another way to get the car to turn in at times and to get the best exits.. it feels different at Montreal compared to Hungary but the setups different too. I am happy because being elitist about sims sucks these days since there is so little choice, especially for modern F1 cars and tracks. And every year it should improve and become better and better.
However, it sucks that it took me all these months to figure it out. It doesn't replace the other ones, but it's great fun and looks amazing.

Just did an online 100% race and the tyre wear and wet racing is anything but arcade like. I'm not about to reread all these pages though, I hope you can appreciate that.
Give it your best shot tho, why isn't the driving sim like?

Time trial times are like fantasy so we can't compare the speeds or driving lines, as they are different. For race setups for proper long races, aids off.. it's not so easy. I don't see any obvious flaws.

I would say overall Codemasters have done an amazing job of combining skill and fun. And the online races I've seen with aids off (rare) there was only 5 or 6 that survived olong enough, but it felt exactly like a league race. Had a great one at Turkey yesterday, 4 of us within 2 seconds for 14 laps or so. The aids on crowd are usaully more childish and ramming but it's still good fun.
I am curious if anyone here still races online. Especially during the weekends with F1 on.

It's funny cause I never bought into the hype, never posted anything in the MANY pages of arguements and speculation for months leading up the release.. and now it's however many months on and I'm trying to hype it and everyone else is probably sick of it or worried about the 2011 version. Reminds of me Rfactor, people were talking about Rfactor2 back in 2007, and it's 4 years later and still no release. What's wrong with me and why am I always opposite of everyone else.. but at least I've found something that scratches the itch for the time being.

Done for today, but I'll add you next time I login.

Just wanted to post a screencap of one of the best races I've ever had.. it was at Budapest, 21 laps or so. Seemed I had some extra wing vs the others.. at the start of stints I was slower but at the end I was better + a bit faster in the 2 fast corners. Was really hard to overtake though, lots of side by side but too slow in a straight line to make moves stick. I pitted 1 lap later then everyone else on the softer tyres so that one one lap less on the hards. Found a great rhythm on the hards.. but towards the end the grip was low and there was a fine line between getting a good exit or spinning. Almost gotta pretend it's wet.
Leopard had lower wing and in the last few laps of every stint would start to struggle. There was the guy on pole catching up to us behind. Our squabbles and nibbles at each other helped him catch up too. The start of the last lap in 2nd place and it was "deep breath" time for a quali lap.. with worn hard tyres! Went past the car infront with 2 corners to go and we were side by side in the last 2 corners.. on the outside of the final corner and deep breath while I hoped I wasn't smashed into the wall.

There was some finger waving and yes yes yes yes yes yes yes afterwards.

yeah fair enough, i had the best online race today myself actually. all 12 people in a full season though only 3 laps, 6 people stuck around till the end and i won 5 races, i also just only play this game online and even though you occassionly get punted off and is a good way to get away from career modeIt's just that I spent money on a PC and wheel that can handle sims/games like rFactor or iRacing, or editing movie files or whatever and it seems pointless to spend extra on a console box. For what would be soley for this or one or two other things. I'm not a big fan of playing games just for the sake of playing games.. like the latest shooter or racing game etc. (Ironic, condering how obsessed I get with a game that has F1 cars in it.)
It sucks to be divided..Yeah there are people who race online.. not a huge amount.. but enough to make it worthwhile, especially at peak times. Mostly Euros.

Hi there.
I posted in another thread then realised there is a devoted F1-2010 game thread. My feedback would be somehow allowing "spectator only" access to races, better live timing and fastest lap stats. Also being able to record online races to the PS3 HDD would be good!
I am involved in an online championship - and we all have to set up video cameras to record our races. We are taking the season pretty seriously and started doing race reports and lots of email banter - so suddenly we ended up with a whole website devoted to the championship! As i have said elsewhere, definitely a bit over the top but everyone is having a fun time with it. You can check it out below :
