Blimey David........we had this record and it used to be played on Sunday evenings, on the Gramophone, anyone remember these? The whole family used to listen to music......together :)

Problem was Sterling my Dad was into Bing Crosby and I was into The Clash .......we could never agree on what music to play :rotfl:

Strangely appropriate that a race in the middle of a desert, has started some of you off on a Desert Island Disks off-topic trip.

Not sure whether the following are likely to inspire any Bob Hope/Bing Crosby/Dorothy Lamour/Joe Strummer interplay, but one never knows...

Early this morning we had this...

...yet by the time practice began cars were running on intermediates, in the wake of a brief deluge. The drivers worst affected were those in the snappily titled Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East (and no, I didn't pop out to take pictures).

I did do some GP2 stuff, though. From the top, Oliver Turvey on pole position, Pastor Maldonado on the kerbs and Marcus Ericsson on a Rally GB recce.

Jenson Button has been reading the GP2 driving manual.

Jaime Alguersuari looks forward to another weekend tussling for about 12th place.

Brazilian blend: Messrs Barrichello and di Grassi.

Last night we had flags at sunset, this time the subject is flagging title hopes. Flagging, but extant...

A few more from here...

Someone thought they'd been beaten by the chequered flag at the end of Q3... and so backed off before bothering to check whether it was OK to continue. As, indeed, it would have been. A classic slice of Felipe Massa being, well, Felipe Massa.

Tunnel vision: Jaime Alguersuari, Mark Webber and Bruno Senna.

Heikki Kovalainen passes beneath the Yas Hotel, which you can't see because I forgot to bring a wide-angle lens with me...

Adrian Sutil indulges his passion for kerbs.

Sébastien Buemi indulges his passion for the bits beyond the kerbs.

Would I be the only person here who thinks these two phots perfectly illustrate what is wrong with F1 as a racing spectacle these days.

And Thank You Simon for another entertaining year of Nostalgia in the making.

Cheers
Lee

Many thanks for keeping us royally entertained during the season

It would be a waste if some of these shots did not make it onto the pages of a publication at some point?

A picture of a car on intermediates during practice and a car going through the pit exit?

I have to add my thanks to Simon for keeping us entertained with his captions this year, as Phil says it would be a waste not to see his excellent photographs published at some time.

Maybe he's referring to the complex aerodynamic devices on each end of the car(s)?

You're a bit late to the party to complain about that in 2010. Aerodynamics have been a problem since the 70s.

True of course, but they get sillier and sillier with each passing year.

Exactly, contrast a front on view of a 'ground effects' Lotus 79 with the mess that the McLaren has hanging off the nose. Then there's that ridiculous rear wing!

Just adding my thanks to Simon for all his fine efforts this year. It's been a pleasure to view his efforts and to see his constantly evolving improvement to the fine F1 photographer he's become.

Thanks to one and all for the kind comments, exaggerated though I consider some to be. Here, meanwhile, are a few more from wherever I was last weekend.

"Can I drive something else now, please?"

"So I'll have a crap spin at the first chicane and trigger a Safety Car that will help Nico and inadvertently trip Ferrari..? Easy enough…"

Half Man Half Biscuit wrote a rather wonderful song called Bad Losers on Yahoo! Chess (from the album CSI Ambleside). It's a theme that could be extended.

Four of this lot are proper photographers, but look closely and you'll spot top golfer Paul Casey (second from the right)...

Sunset boulevard: Heikki Kovalainen.

Nicole came on to the grid to give Lewis advice about tyre management, presumably. Or maybe it was her poorly timed pit call…
