I recently received a series of photographs taken at Moclpis, Washington during a Free For All race held on July 4, 1910. The race, run by The Automobile Club of Seattle, was won by Albert Stevens driving a Stearns.

I’d like to hear from anyone that knows about the races that took place at Moclips or the Stearns car.

Thanks,

Bill Wagenblatt

The Stearns was probably the same 'Six' (a 45/90 with a 12.9L engine) which won the 24H at Brighton Beach in August 1910.

I did come across these races in passing while researching my book (see http://www.dlg.speed...book/book.html). There was an advert for Ford in the Atlanta Constitution newspaper mentioning that Ford's finished 1st and 2nd in the $2000 and under race held at the same event (and spelt Moclips as Mocklip). No further information - local newspapers from the area from that time don't seem to be in the database I searched.

I would be interested to see anything that you find out about these races though.

On teamdan.com the track is designated as Mocklip Beach, the Ford 1-2 is also mentioned.

Moclip(s) is the right spelling. Reportedly it's the Indian word for 'large rusty tin building'.

If I could type I'd get Moclips correct! Anyway I have a short newsapaper profile on Albert Stevens that mentions the Moclips race, no details though.

The Tacoma Public Library had a fairly hefty folder of old newspaper clippings about racing when I last checked there. I don't specifically remember anything about Moclips, but it's possible.

There is a Historical Museum in Moclips, they have a website with contact information.

I've been to Moclips many times, it's often as dreary as shown in the picture above.
