I've just come across this item in the Guardian's sports blog by Richard Williams. It seems that while on army leave in Paris in 1959 Elvis and some of the other GIs drove to Reims to watch the French Grand Prix.

Seems possible, as a Mrs Bushakra from Modesto encountered him in the Folies Bergere at about the right time:

However, according to this, he'd have been back in Germany by the time the GP was run:

The fact that you can research old newspapers on Google was more interesting than the article.

Well, i found it interesting, but cant imagine Elvis visiting anywhere in 1959 without being noticed or photographed, he was even more famous than Dan Gurney back then!.

He certainly didn't visit the Lotus pit ! That was a really hot race . Innes came in with heat prostration.

Nor did we see Elvis elsewhere in the paddock that weekend. And, yes, it was a scorcher that weekend!

Don't think Martin chatted to him on his grid walk. As a faithful 'under the bedclothes' Radio Luxembourg Top 20 devotee at the time, I'm sure I'd have remembered that.
