From autorace.com, HHF on launch control:

On launch control systems, he said: "Launch control systems will do similar things to the race starts. With everyone sure to have a maximum performance off the line with no stalled engines or wheel-spin it will make the starts a lot closer and, ultimately, safer if there are no cars lagging off the grid. However, it will also take a lot of personal satisfaction away from the race for me, for a really good start will become nothing special any more. Now it will be down to simple reaction times as the lights go out".

With guaranteed equally good starts at the front of the grid, the excitement of the F1 standing start will be emasculated, that is 50% of the fun in an F1 race nowadays. Is F1 set to become more boring ?

Watch starts from 1993 - all running TC, but still interesting and certain teams certainly had huge advantages regardless of the supposed "level playing field"

There is launch control now to?

Jesus, I'm starting to think of the late 90's as "the good ole days". When cars were driven with skills. Thats a scary thought.

The thing that pisses me off as a Villeneuve fan is that Jacques took the time to get his starts perfected, and now that's all nullified. How many points would BAR have scored if Jacques hadn't been so great on starts??

Well now that starts will be a straight horsepower race Jacques won't do too badly!

A good start has as much to do with possitioning yourself on the track for the first corner as it has to do with throtle and clutch control. I think good car positioning contributed as much to Jacques good starts in 2000 as his power control ability. Launch control will not change that aspect we will still have interesting starts.

I am not very happy with the return of traction and launch control next year. I understand why they are doing it and think that it may be the right thing to do until they (the FIA), can find a way to detect and prevent TC in an effective manner. Ultimatly we do not live in a perfect world where everybody plays the game in a sporting manner.

It will be car power and driver reaction time. Not clutch senstivity anymore.
