That being said I can't talk having myself been charged with excessive speed followed by a 1 year ban

edit - "The divisional van saw Hamilton turn into the street with smoking wheels and pulled him over." - hell yeah, that's our boy

Where's Dave Ryan when you need him?

Poor Lewis, he has already issued a statement to say sorry.

Hoon is a derogatory term used in Australia and New Zealand to refer to a younger person who engages in loutish, anti-social behaviour. In particular, it is used to refer to one who drives in a manner which is anti-social by the standards of contemporary society, that is, fast, noisily or dangerously. While generally applied to automobiles and other road vehicles, anti-hooning legislation also targets hooning behavior wherever it occurs, including motor boats. Hoon activities can include speeding, burnouts, doughnuts or screeching tires. Those commonly identified as being involved in "hooning" or street racing are young, predominantly male although increasingly female drivers in the age range of 17 and 35 years.

They came about from the acts of generally young people in high powered motor vehicles using public roads as a expression session which is seen as dangerous behaviour and has caused serious injury including death not only to participants but also innocent traffic users.
The laws have been tightened and impounding the car is used as a deterrent to young people who value their vehicle, as offences are repeated longer terms of impound are applied and if serious enough the vehicle is permanently removed from the owner.
So Lewis got himself caught up under this law, CL63 impounded for the night and a trip to court maybe.

You were there?? Were you there to protest? Im very curious how this thing got started. It seems bizarre.Â

But it has to be said, that sort of driving on public streets is unacceptable by any standards, no matter who it is. I hope the Police sell of Lewis's car (if it belongs to him) and that he does end up with some sort of reprimand from McLaren for this. I'm a huge supporter of Lewis, but there's no excuse for his behavior what so ever.

I was just taking a walk actually. When at home I heard the Police helicopter, and well went to see what was going on, and saw a huge crowd, stayed for about 3 mins, saw that they were mental, and left.

It is understood he told policemen at the scene that he was worried this would dent his reputation.
Oh dear.

You know, if the VIC government would just build a drag strip Lewis would have had a safe and controlled environment within which to express himself...
Why should we foot the bill? .lol

Lewis, if you want to do a hooning at least wait for the divisional Police van to drive past.

I agree, does anyone know what he was driving ? If it was one of the new AMG SLS Mercs, I'd was it was proper-use of a vehicle.

Breaking the law/rules and then apologising for it is for Lewis like Pop-eye opening a can of spinach. It only makes him stronger.
Appologising is nice. Now the punitive measures. How about cage him for 24 hrs on Sunday, and take his driver's licence away for six months?

Eastern Creek no longer has drag races, the NSW government built Sydney Dragway is where all drag racing (purpose built and street) now happens.
You can call bullshit all you want - while it won't completely eradicate all street racing there is real evidence available from other areas like Sydney and Qld that having a safe and legal venue for people to take their cars will help to reduce it...

I can see your empathy, she falsely accused him of interfering twice, and on purpose, when it was once and by accident. Then when challenged in the paddock she burst into tears

Maybe he was racing Alonso:
Does look like it's Alonso. I guess they're driving down from the circuit to the hotel at Crown.

Heh...after all, he was not crashing and this is exactly the way young mans are supposed to drive. Honestly there are too much laws out there.
You should get fined for that statement!

Laws are laws but some common sense should be applied like was there a danger to the public and a world champion driver doing burnouts is not to me a danger to public safety, I would clobber boy racers and chavs who pull this sort of stunt but a bit of common sense should be applied with racing drivers who have exceptional car control
I think the cop was just trying to make a name for himself tbh

It's allowed in Australia to drive sportcars in midnight? No law to ban the disturbing engine noise?Maybe he was racing Alonso:
