Yet again, the fans of the region are shafted as another broadcasting contract is signed to a TV station that doesnt understand the sport at all.

After getting a fairly decent treatment from "Al Jazeera Sports" the deal moved to Bahrain TV, which was unbelievably awful; bad video quality, always changing channels, total reception cut off etc. but atleast we had the option of listening to the BBC commentary feed instead of bahrain tv's commentators who spoke in Arabic and had no clue whats happening on track... Which brings me to this year as we now have Abu Dhabi Sports who has exclusive rights and they seem to be really interested in getting it right, with long studio hours dedicated to each GP BUT we have to endure their egyptian commentators! and only people in the Emirates get access to english commentary!!

WHERE IS THE COMMON SENSE IN THAT! so the millions of english speaking fans have to watch races scratching their heads in the whole MENA region?!?! i wrote to FOM and Abu Dhabi sports and dont know what else to do :( but ill keep making noises.

Question is if this is the case in different areas around the world? are you forced to watch f1 in a certain language due to your location? and is there ANYTHING i can do to get myself some english commentary? whether online or otherwise to supplement the video feed i have.

Try online tv platforms (had to delete the name to be OK with the Forum Rules). There is loads of 'user provided' content. Some folks transmit live events, films, etc from TV stations. Obviously it's not legal so they get banned sometimes but will quickly post a message about where the content will reappear.

Of course it is not easy to find the right channel...

It's a shame that i even need to consider going to such alternatives.. being that am willing to pay what it takes to have the service properly..

I would not worry about that. If there is no service you can buy then what else can you do? Those services are mainly for people in countries where they have limited access to any international TV at all and for expats.
I only know about it because I travel a lot and often find myself without access to any sport events in my country.

You can also download online TV software like SopCast, TVAnts, PPMate, TVUPlayer, Uusee, PPStream. Once you have it search for Star Sports Channel. They have broadcasts in English and Chinese. There should be more channels as well.

Obviously the image quality is quite poor via internet but you may be able to match the sound with your Arabic TV picture.

I donno why I did not think about it before.

If you have it on telly, but don't want the commentary, then just go to BBC radio 5 on-line and listen to their commentary while watching TV. This is 100% legal :)

There's no better commentary than from BBC radio!

I'm pretty sure BBC Five Live commentary is blocked if you are outside of the UK.

Anyway be careful with this thread:

Correct, here is a link to Radio 5 live that explains all.

I would like to add that the service provided by FilmOn, is not a legally licensed service from the BBC and any links to that service will be removed.

I can't believe even radio broadcasts are blocked  They do not transmit anything that belongs to the rights owner (sound and images) I would think. This is crazy.

se7en_24 thanks for pointing out this announcement. I have to admit I did not read this before

I have removed all names of websites even though they were not hot links.

Sorry for that.
