1) Is the general admission ticket decent value? Is the view from Hairpin good and roughly how earkly would one need to arrive to get a good spot come race day?
2) Can you camp in Montreal? Any good cheap accomodations anyone can recommend?
Thanks!

Can't you just rent a caravan like vehicle and sleep in it? That is what we were thinking of doing. We do that for the Motorcycle GPs in California, USA and FIM mx also in California this year we have one rented.
There is no parking lot to speak of. You can't drive to the circuit, so you would have to find some large lot at a store or something that would allow you to use their lot and then take the Metro. It is the only way to the circuit. Montreal is nothing like any track in the US.

I'm going to my first GP in Montreal this year! This will be my first visit to Montreal. I'm going to be driving up from NYC on Friday, and leaving Monday.
How is parking in Montreal? I'm staying near the University of Quebec. Are there any lots that offer reasonable parking rates?

Shouldn't be too hard finding one... maybe directly at the Uni?
Depends where you are really, here's a link that might help: Link.
Find something near a subway station (called Metro, look for the 'M's on the map) and you're all set.
Cheers!

Thanks for the info! Looks like parking rates aren't too bad.

In '96, we opted for seats at the hairpin. We thought we'd done well to score seats at the very top of Stand 21, but were disappointed to find that the best seats were the ones down at the bottom of the stand: that particular stand had a very shallow slope, so sitting at the top meant you could see nothing of the track as the cars entered the hairpin. All you could see was the other side of the hairpin as they exited. Lesson learned.
This year, we chose Stand 11, at the Senna Curves. Excellent view all the way from S/F thru Turns 1 and 2. The only drawback (at age 72) is the fairly long hike from the Metro station: I'd estimate it was nearly 2 miles (3 km). But worth it, imho.
The Metro works extremely well, esp if you allow a couple of hours for most of the post-race crowd to leave the track. We chose to spend a pleasant time sitting under the trees sipping a Labatt's or two.

Hey Victor!Planing a trip over to Montreal for the race next year, any recommendations for hotels in the area with Metro access to the track?
/Viktor
depending on your budget for hotels(keep in mind that the price will rise up for the grand prix week) there is plently of hotels around downtown montreal that are close to metro stations, one that come in mind right now is a place call Le Roberval
(link http://www.leroberva...ish/index.aspx), a nice hotel, right on the corner of St denis street and Boul Rene Lesvesque,a 2 minutes walk for the Berri Uqam Metro Station(witch is the central metro Station And is only one stop away from the Parc Jean Drapeau Station were the Grand Prix Is happenning) also not very far from where everything is happenning downtown it is a very nice hotel, never stayed there my self (i live right in the city so no need to pay for hotels!!!)but some of my wife's relatives stayed there once and it was very cool...like i said it is depending on your budget, plus i bet that if you book early you will not fall victim of the grand prix charge or when everything goes more expensive in the coming week of the grand prix...
are you planning on grand stand tickets or general admision, cuz if you go gfor the general admission tickets i also have a lot of tips for great places to check out the race...

I was hoping for some information on how good or, more probably, how bad the view is from grandstand Bronze 31.
Also wondered how the highest spots in the grandstands are lettered. Is it AA - ZZ first and then A-Z on up as the guy at the ticket office in Montreal told me? Or is it the other way round?
My husband and I haven't been to Montreal for a Grand Prix since the 80s and things have changed quite a bit since then! The prices being one of the biggest changes. We were very disappointed to learn yesterday that the tickets we thought we ordered just days after this year's race (in Bronze 34 at the hairpin) would not be ours as all of this years ticket holders had first choice of seating. That grandstand was completely sold out before we even had a chance at it. I'm still depressed over our second choice of Bronze 31. We have seats now in section 3, row Y. We can change this, I am told. Should we? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, unusually, at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve the double letter rows are at the bottom of the stands, nearest the track.
Your seats are near the very top of the stand, three sections from the left as you look at the stand from the track.
I prefer Tribune 31 because the action as cars arrive fast under the bridge braking hard for the turn is very good, it is close to the track, and there is a large screen directly opposite.
Every year Tribune 34 sells out first, partly this is because it is so close to the Metro, in my opinion the really slow hairpin turn isn't such fun to watch. Yes, there are mistakes under braking, but the actual stand is quite far from the action.
I would be happy with your seats at Bronze price, or maybe upgrade them to Tribune 11 or 12 at Silver price ?

Thank you so much for your reply to my questions! I feel much better now about our seats for next year's race.
We had tried to get a look at grandstand 31 when watching recording of this year's race but it's hard to tell from that.
To be honest, I wondered about Bronze 34 as it seemed pretty far back from the action. I can see why it sells out being Bronze price and at the hairpin. We used to be able to stand on the hillside where Silver 24 is now and take pictures of the cars going through the hairpin but that was a LONG time ago.
Thanks again.
