Having unearthed some pictures of the above event I was wondering whether anyone had the entry list for the event. Having done a good search on the internet I've come up with nothing so far.

As a tempter I attach one

I have - it's in the wonderful book by Evan Green, 'A Bootfull of Right Arms'

There's results as well.

But I'm away from home so I can't post them right now.

That's A Boot Full of Right Arms, Bruce...

It's here on my desk. Greatest read ever. I can't identify the Escort above, there's a number in the entry list and I can't tell what number that is. Nor is there a pic of it in the book.

Anyone who's interested in this event and doesn't have this book is wasting their time. It tells more about the event than you can believe.

Agree with Ray, awesome book indeed! I suppose that it is Bryan Wood with Edward Meek driving the Ford Escort RS Mexico on the photo, entered as â„–24.

The reg no (or the car) is Harold Morley's Motoring News championship Escort, referred to in the specialist press at the time as an "RS2000" - but that was before Ford used that model name on a production car. Morley's car was a 2 litre alloy block BDA (surely the first in a road rally car?) and, outside of the works cars, the press seemed to have a problem in period with recognising that it was in all respects still an RS1600.

IIRC, Morley was given the alloy block engine by Ford to test out on Motoring News road rallies before the works used it themselves.

I know this. But Harold Morley didn't participate in the 1974 UDT World Cup Rally. That could mean that Morley gave the car to Bryan Wood and Edward Meek for the 1974 London-Munich rally marathon, or sold the car. A year before, in 1973, this car had been reported to be in Morley's ownership by Cars and Car Conversions magazine.

Morley had 'defected' to Porsche in 1973 using a Carrera RS for the MN Championship. So maybe he sold off the Escort to pay for it?

No one suggested Morley took part in the 74 WCR. I also said the registration (not necessarily the same car).
He was entered in the 73 Scottish in an Escort but drove the 911. As far as I recall , it was news at the time when he turned up in the new Carrera RS Lightweight (and won Gp3). He didn't seem short of a few bob then (and seems even less short now his name is synonymous with dentistry in Barbados...) so may have had both cars at the same time. The Escort was originally (72) in Duckhams colours.

Sorry to be late here - but there is a complete entry list in AUTOCAR, page 44, 4 May 1974.

Sorry, but I'm not technologically equipped to scan this and post it ...

The unsung heroes are: 8. John Hemsley/John Skinner. Morris Marina, V8. England.

A recent Blog, by Ian Elliott, on the AR Online website featured the V8 engined Morris MArina pick-up built by Special Tuning at Abingdon. This prompted some responses regarding other V8 Marinas including the Foden sponsored one entered for the British Army in the 1974 WCR. This vehicle was owned by (I think) a Foden Trucks dealer that was also a BL one and it turned up on display at the Sutton PArk stage of the RAC Rally in 1974 where I had organised a display of historic vehicles including several from BL's own collection (well before BMIHT was formed).

I have attached a link to the "Fast Marina Magazine" - yes really - that features this car. The car retired in Spain on the WCR due to rear axle failure.

Just wondered if ayone knew whether or not the car still exists and if anyone has any pics of its display at Sutton Park in 1974?

Afraid I have no pics but I saw the V8 Marina at some sort of midweek Army event in Aldershot when I was a cadet, so there is another place where someone might have taken some photo's if I can find my diary of the time on my next visit home I might even be able to give you a date.

John Hemsley kindly invited me out of the rain to sit in the car which was on some sort of podium, I must have been dribbling either that or he took pitty on me getting drenched in that irksome itchy cadet uniform :-)

One thing I cannot square with my memory is that I would have laid money on the car being painted predominantly yellow ?

Meantime reading between the lines sounds like chris on this link is trying to build a replica of the car.

I do detect a few errors on those pages...

'Some guy named Zasada..."? Any '60s follower of rallying would surely remonstrate anyone who wrote that!

I suspect a faint whiff of irony might have passed unnoticed :cat:

Hi Ralph.

Yes, I remember it as being yellow too, so may have been rebuilt and with a revised livery after the WCR. We'll see what turns up!

There's been a photo turn up on that forum with a yellow stripe along the side of a mostly white car, the bonnet being painted blue.

The yellow is a part of it you have to notice.

I certainly noticed the yellow but not the white, maybe I have a selective memory
