Is that possible? I sure love drinking coke more than redbull, I love vanilla coke alot as well, and that would be a great American team, and talk about a familiar brand name! I wish it were so. We have to put up with redbull, why not a proper drink team then in Coke? :) I guess it's just fantasy talk huh?

Excellent idea. Next to Coca Cola Racing you'd have their sister team Vanilla Coke Racing with outdated cars where they'd put unexperienced rookies with minimalistic chances of ever making it in F1 that they can swap every 0,75 seasons.

There's absolutely zero reason for Coca-Cola to run their own team, let alone sponsor one in F1.

Red Bull's marketing on the other hand is run differently. They hardly ever advertise (in the old fashion sense) and raise their brand awareness backing 'extreme' sports and athletes, which folk watching then associate them with and go out and by the product.

Two different business/marketing models.

Which is an odd advertising campaign as Red Bull is primarly sold as a vodka mixer in clubs. A ****ing expensive vodka mixer at that.

That's generally just a UK thing though.

Dietrich Mateschitz wasn't initially too fond that his beverage was being used as a mixer, but was quickly swayed once it took off in pubs and clubs and made a fair wedge.

As an aside, I do believe Red Bull's days at the top of the energy drinks market may be numbered. They're still making billions, but with their recent wholesale price hike, they've placed themselves in an unnecessary difficult position. Give it a few years and I believe the likes of Monster Energy will not only be a major threat to them, they'll also have a much larger presence in F1.

No, I don't think that was a UK only thing. People here in Spain did it a lot and are still doing it. I think most of europeans probably did that.

Anyway, Coke is not a "sports" beverage, so no point getting your name as it. If Cocacola wanted to get into F1 it would have to be as "Burn" (their energy drink) or Powerade (their sugarish sports beverage).

Muhtar Kent - Coke's CEO - was seen in the Istanbul pits last year (he's Turkish-American), promping talk that Coca-Cola might get involved with a team, but nothing came of it. It's a suprise to me that they haven't gotten involved in the sport yet.

Why is it a surprise to you?

It's not like they want to positionate the brand as a sports beverage. Coke is beyond that. They are positioned as a "everyone brand". Being a sports brand would be a step back.

As I said, the only good way Cocacola can enter the F1 is with thir brands Burn or Powerade.

Coke till today concentrated on other types of big sports, like Olympics and so on, just as if they are consciously avoiding the Formula ONe... The reason, beats me..

If they do a livery like Ken Block's Ford Focus, then yes, please.

Because Coca-Cola are a massive international conglomerate. They're one of the most recogniseable brands on the face of the planet. They don't really need to sponsor sports, but doing so is a luxury they can afford.

And nowhere is it written that Coca-Cola have to sponsor a sport with sports drinks brands.

You know that Coca Cola and Pepsi are both involved with Nascar, a lot of them are driver related sponsorships but they are involved in motorsport.
Also they have naming rights to the race at Charlotte and at 5 other tracks having just extended thier contract to 2015.

What it may come down to is, they may not wish to invest in Formula 1 due to the type of sponsors the teams seem to appeal while in Nascar its all down to everday brandnames advertising and sponsoring.

Could you imagine an M&M's sponsored f1 car ?

I heard that one reason why Coca Cola never really got involved with F1 is that it has no central advertising budget. All it's advertising is done by regional divisions all over the world, so that each region is responsible for it's own budget.

To have Coke sponsor a worldwide series like F1, therefore, all the multivarious regions would have to agree to contribute, (ie lose a part of their own budget), to a common pot. Either that or one or two would stump up the sponsorship and accept that the others would get free advertising at their expense.

Another possibility for their reluctance historically, perhaps, was F1s love affair with tobacco. Perhaps they didn't want to be associated with that.

is not Fat Burner involved in GP2 with Racing Engineering? i'd think in the world where more and more people are worried about being overweight, that could be the next big thing.
so the evolution is: "just a nice fizzy drink" -> "energy drink" -> "a drink that promises to make you lose weight". hmm - as long as it still can be used as mixer...

That's an interesting idea, and I sure wouldn't mind seeing it.

Along similar lines, I was always puzzled by the abscence of a "Miss Budweiser" in F1 during the 70's and 80's.

Now thats what im talking about...either that or Buckfast F1...can get a couple of boyracers out their corsa's for the drivers! Would probably last longer than USF1 if nothing else.
But being serious...I dont know if I like the idea of Coke F1 something a bit tacky about it, like the McDonalds champcar team...just looks silly IMO.

Surely sooner than later Coke will sponsor Ferrari. There isn't much more Ferrari can do to dilute it's brand further than have Ferrari edition Cokes at double the price.

That's generally just a UK thing though.

Red Bull is a very popular mixer in North American alcoholic drinks.

Interesting pics indeed! Some look real cool, others don't lol. Yea V8, well I can only hope right? I shall not hold my Royal breath though, that's for sure! Sure would be a great sight. As fas as I'm concerned F1 lost integrity when RB took over Jaguar anyway, so that's why it wouldn't be so bad now....

Doubt that was just a UK thing as well as it and continues to be a popular thing in Canada and the US in the bars. In the US though, Monster is trying hard to displace them by spending a fortunue for exclusivity at certain clubs.

I don't foresee Monster really taking over from RedBull. Redbull have a huge significant market share still and will continue to do so. Monster is simply not as good (taste, size, buzz).

Redbull Corp. is a pretty savy group, they wouldn't just willy nilly change their wholesale if it would affect sales/distribution or market share.

As for Coca Cola coming into F1.. up until recently their sales were a bit off getting involved in a significant expense such as F1 would be hard to get approved by the board as Pepsi was making significant increases in market share. It's been the most recent quarters that they seem to be growing again.

I for one can only see them coming on board with Monster Energy if.. if.. there is a USGP that is well received. Seeing a Monster Energy F1 car lap the oval at Indy might just be the ticket. It would have to be with a major top 3 team though and for that.. it would come at a very very significant expense so it's a long shot to ever see that happen.

RC Cola sponsored George Follmer's 917 in Can-Am back in the day. The only people in F1 sponsorship these days are the clueless ones.

Hehe, well a black F1 with a big yellow star on the engine cover/sharkfin would stand out visually... but yeah I should have put 'garish' in bold there lol

I like how some of these companies are pretty much funding stuff at grassroots level though... even if I'm not a fan of some of the disciplines.. drifting for one, I find that insulting lol, what a waste of cash and decent cars!l
