I'm new to this forum and may not be correct in my posting. However, I am in need of a copy of the 1962 USAC sprint car Chevy V-8 engine specifications for a car I am restoring. Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.

You might try Tom McGriff of the "Mac Miller's Garage" website. He has been around the oval track racing game for a long time. I met him recently at the VARA & Historic Indy/Champ car meet at the Auto Club Speedway. He was there racing a 30's replica oval racer that he built for a customer.

Stock block engine [ Chev V8 ] were resrticted to about 302 CI in the '60s and at least up to the late '70s
I remember Jack Kindoll [ JFK Co ] telling me on a visit to the US in 1977 that he has a USAC engine that he puts in his car so he can run his car with USAC when they [USAC] race on the West Coast [ Ascot etc. ]
PS After puting up this post I remembered I have a 1977 USAC Rule Book some place and I will see if I can find it over the weekend

I dont know much about these cars but I am fairly sure the limit was 305 [5 litre] up until the 70s at least. And the good Chevs would have been 302s one would guess. In those days 283s bored to 4".
I think your rule book will be interesting Peter.

You only need the maximum engine capacity? That was 5000 cc (305.1 ci), effective from 1962 to 1980 inclusive. As has been stated, the SBC ran mostly in 302 ci form with a 4" bore and 3" stroke.

Thanks to all that responded.

Michael is correct, the limit was 305.1, and most were 283s bored to 4" with the stock 283 (3") crank.

Peter, did you find the 1977 rule book?

Thanks,

Unassembled
