Ive seen alot of talk about Legard not being very good, and I agree with this. I personally thought James Allen was absolutely fantastic. He had such passion and knowledge which Legard lacks.

What do you think?

He's been especially annoying today, notably having kittens every time someone goes off track through turns 6 and 7 even though every single driver has been doing it all weekend

also blaming petrov for his off this morning even though there was a swimming pool in the kerb which brundle did correct him on later thankfully

such an amateur

Barca qually just now was one of his worst for a long while... poor Martin Brundle having to cover for that.

I think it's turn 8 where the drivers try to take the straightest line and often go quite far off the track in order to achieve that. He starts getting all excited and shouty about a Force India, think it was Liuzzi, flying off the track when he was just taking the standard line on that part of the track and going 'wide'. I'm just thinking this guy needs to calm down. That's all he needs to do. He doesn't seem like a cool head. Brundle needs to always come in and bring things down back to level.

He should probably go, but to be honest I'm not as fussed as a lot of you seem to be.

You'd think he'd kidnapped your children from some of the comments I've read!

He's a prize tit and is an embarrassment to BBC Sport! Can't believe he's still there.

Just email and complain to the BBC - ignore their stock answers, just keep at it.

Lets keep this thread alive, keep voting, and email it to the BBC. They HAVE to drop him. He's just awful.

He's been worse before but there were a couple of niggles today other than the usual catchphrases - 1. Overreacting whenever someone cut a curb or ran a bit wide, and 2. Getting excited about Vettel setting fastest sector times on his outlap in Q2 when there were only about 2 other cars ahead on track, neither of which had done a lap.

Though in fairness, I probably wouldn't have noticed the latter if I hadn't been looking at the live timing. But then again, he was looking at the same thing.

Watch the old commentary with Murray.

Now watch it with James Allen.

Now watch it with Legard.

Nuff said.

Because of the way BBC structured todays programme I too listened to R5 for the first time ( couldn't be arsed to get out of the red button).
The one thing that struck me about it being so enjoyable was...

No Feckin' LEGARD!

Legard is freaking terrible, the man is awful at commentating on F1, its as simple as that.
Anyone else get incredibly frustrated when he gets all excited at fastest sector times from the first car to go out in a qualy session? He does it every time and it makes me want to slap something.

Just 1 of many, He is awful.

When I first started poking around this forum I often found the hatred for JA quite mystifying. He had some irritating ticks (like "GOOOOO!!!" and "WIIIIINNNNSSSS" and the Lewis/Britain/Ferrari bias which Murray also had and ITV exacerbated) but he at least understood F1 and gave some useful insight. I don't need a commentator to describe whats happening in front of him, because I can see it myself. Its the way Legard shouts about nothing, and you can sense Martin next to him having to wait before saying something useful that drives me mad.

So, thats a yes.

Great idea lets start a thread on every annoying/incompetent F1 TV-commentator or pundit we know, I've heard bad things about RTL, TF1, the BRT and maybe the Spanish here can start a thread on the quality of their presenters too.

No charisma, totally forgettable and adds absolutely nothing to the broadcast.

Yes, but only if he is taken off the F1 coverage COMPLETELY.

We don't want him taking over from David Croft and ruining practice sessions, now, do we?

Can't speak for anyone else but I wouldn't trade my F1 coverage for any other country's because I'm fully aware on how good we do have it. The second point is debatable, former Allen-bashers accept that he was better than what Legard is now.

I personally find Jake Humphrey more annoying. His little sarcastic quips at drivers, F1 personnel and fellow hosts remind me of a jumped up little brat.

He was a children's TV presenter a few years ago.

He's terrible and I just hate the way he SHOUTS!!!!

He's like one of those headmasters at school who used to get apoplectic with rage and shout really loud.

It woud be ok if it was enthusiastic (like murray) but it's just shouting for the sake of it, the bell-end. Its like concrete in my ears.

Just because Allen was better, that doesn't make him good.

Also, Steve Slater is another clown... and he's been doing this for as long as I can remember... AGES. He was not as bad in the Chris Goodwin days, but that's mainly because Chris Goodwin kept him in check. Chris was very much like Martin, I liked him. Too bad he left the Star commentary team.

I think the position is a poisoned chalice, Legard now before him James Allen affectionately known as The Cock and even old Murray Walker get a pasting on this forum.

Whenever and whoever takes over from the current incumbent is destined for the same treatment

As I've said before, getting a majority agreement on an alternative commentator would a least be a constructive start to proceedings - otherwise you can bet auntie beeb will not be listening

I've watched F1 on BBC last season and while it's still ten times better then the german commentators (god i hate Christian Danner) Legard always annoyed me big time. So yes.

I wish they could clone a german speaking Martin Brundle for RTL.

I'd love to see David Croft promoted. He's genuinely enthusiastic, knows his stuff and will be able to engage with Brundle as a result.

The chemistry between Legard and Brundle is just non-existant. I often sense Brundle getting frustrated with some of the crap Legard comes out with.

I don't remember being annoyed by any of Croft's commentary during the practice sessions, and I've watched the majority of them. He just comes across as a fan.

He doesn't commentate for the GP2 series.Even worse,he does the F1 commentating. He tries to pull off a Murray Walker impression, but always fails. He is always getting corrected by his co-commentators.Thankfully we've had them better - Chris Goodwin,Karun Chandhok and now Gary Anderson. It get's even worse though,Alex Yoong is a part of the broadcasting team too.
