Luca Badoer Valencia and Spa 2009

Good point. At least for now, he's known as a clown, basically.

Which, like Q, was just another hotlap...

He had extensively tested the (his) car under such conditions at that very track...

A hotlap or two isn't defining... A hotlap or two is to be expected at the very top of motorsport?

Just because you disagree about the significance doesn't mean it isn't defining to many people. Mikas speed and resistance to pressure is a standout feature of his career, and we saw it clearly during that qualifying session against a driver that a lot of people think was the best ever, and we saw his feel for a car on his outlap against Alesi who generally excels in those conditions. I think it easily classifies for this thread.

I'm trying to think of anyone else that has gone off crying in the bushes at Monza...

It's a defining race, not defining hot lap... and he crashed out due to driver error at a track he had tested his car at extensively... At that track the expectation should have been to at least bring it home...

Mika's career could have gone much differently had Ron Dennis not gotten a Finn fetish by the time Mika had his crash at Australia 1995...

He does have two DCs... While driving the best car on the grid... With a teammate who has no ambition...

Did I mention it took an extremely controversial collusion between teams for him to get his first win? Now that's... defining!

Risistance to pressure on the track then if you want. Go watch Suzuka '98 or '99.

You're just being pedantic. It was a defining race weekend. It doesn't matter what your expectation was, the general expectation at the time was that he'd maybe be better than Andretti, and then he outqualified the qualifying master and put on a good display in the race. The result doesn't matter, it's a race weekend that is remembered by a lot of people.

Your post could've gone much differently if you'd only been allowed to use words beginning with the letter Q...

Relevance?

for me the defining race in Schumacher's career was Spa 1998 ... before he always tried to crush the opposition by pushing and pushing and pushing throughout the whole race, but I think after hitting Coulthard while half a minute ahead of the opposition, MS began to realise there was no need to take such risks while so far ahead in races like that.

So while he lost that race, I think he possibly won another 15-20 due to the lessons learned from it ... so I think this was his career defining race
