Why is free practice in monaco always held on thursday? And I expect the McLaren's especially lewis to be a lot closer to the Bulls.
Because Friday is the drivers day off for the Monaco ball which is a tradition for all the drivers to attend.

Traditionally the race was held on a weekend when the Friday was a public holiday. Don't remember the name of the holiday. Anyway, the tradition of first practice being on Thursday has remained even though the race is no longer on that public holiday weekend.

Red Bulls never impress in practice, however I believe they will not be as strong here, maybe even not the strongest.

Exactly! But look at Kubica!
Vettel seem not so dominant as in the last race pacewise.
Renault Kubica 2nd,
Track changes until the last laps of saturdays, wouldn't make too much assumptions from practice 1, practice 2 towards the end should show who's progressing towards a ideal position if Quali 1 on sat goes alright.
Redbull might not work well around here. 2 early to tell yet.

Let's see how fast they are by the end of the session.
True about the track getting faster, but its interesting to see how fast the different cars can go on the temporary track situation.

So far Webber seems uncomfortable yep, he needs to make changes for practice 2.

I guess Sauber is paying the price for hiring a rookie. But this is no surprise.
I wonder if this is the real pace of the frontrunners, if yes then Kubica is in for the podium.
