I didn't see any soft tyres beiing used in the first free practice...anyone who did??

No-one ever uses a set of soft tyres in the first practice session, they all just use the single set of the harder tyres that they have to hand back at the end of the session.,

Shame about the rain, Kubica was about to go on supersofts, would have liked to have seen that.

Whats the deal with blue flags on Kovaleinnen in FP? Seems a bit pointless.

WTF?!

Pit: "Okay Lewis, we're just going to go out and do the BBC at the end of the session. We have to be on the circuit when the chequered flag is out"

Was that first lap of session? Looked ridiculously over the top.

Why didn't Massa get a blue flag with the Lotus of Kovy up his gearbox and again a lap later with Glock. Felipe has earned no favours by these guys on Friday and for no worthwhile purpose.

sector 2 vettel with a healthy margin over everyone else. hopefully qualifying will be closer this time round however still think red bull is favorite for 1-2 in qualifying.

This has "Alonso win" written all over it.

This is 1 of his favorite tracks and he always goes very well in here.

Practice one P1, practice 2 P1... looks very good for the weekend.

Its like most dynasties. Sharing the same name or bloodline of somebody in your family who was great, doesn't automatically mean a relative possesses the same qualities. 99% of the time they dont. George Bush Jr being a classic example. Bruno Senna is not a patch on Aryton.

Ouch. It's looking real bad for McLaren. The only thing they will be fighting for on Saturday is getting to Q3. I'd put them as tied for 5th best on this track with Williams. Clearly they are way behind Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault and RBR.

Hi all, new member here, first post!

About B Senna, I think it's us that keep bringing Ayrton back to any discussion about his nephew. ANY post about him will bring out comparisons or thoughts about dinasties.

I suggest we just call him Bruno and evaluate:

a) his car;
b) his experience;
c) how he compares with his team mate
d) what has he done good and bad

concluding if he deserves - or not - to be in F1

Ayrton Senna has nothing to do with any of it, so let's leave him out of this :)

Indeed. If Massa can match Alonso's times or at least be very close to him it would suggest 2 things, Felipe was really having a hard time with the tires they've been using since Australia and that Ferrari's mechanical grip is gonna given them a good change of winning on Sunday.

really?

bahrain
BS qualified 23, KC 24. KC accident 1 lap, BS 17 laps mechanical failure
Australia
BS qualified 21, KC 22. BS 4 laps hydraulic failure, KC finished 14. gained 8 spots with 10 retirements.
Malaysia
BS qualified 23, KC 22. both gained 7 spots mainly due to retirements.
China
BS qualified 23, KC 24. both gained 7 spots mainly due to retirements.
Spain
BS qualified 21, KC 24. both retired.

So quali is BS 4 to 1 and races is pretty even with neither doing much without other driver's retirements. that's "owning him all the time"?

Nah they'll fight for a spot on the 3rd row, damage limitation but you never now this is Monaco and if the weather comes in play they might end up with a podium (or nothing).

"Massa’s point about his life getting tougher since the tyres went a step harder from Bahrain onwards is interesting. In Bahrain Bridgestone brought the super soft and the medium and since then it has been the soft and the hard. Massa said last night that he is finding it tricky to switch the hard tyres on, which is a question of downforce and set up. In Monaco we will have supersoft and medium again."

Allens analysis is ringing true after FP1 and 2, Massa is much more on the pace here, first time since first two races.

Since smarter people never get into office, and the smartest don't even try (it's more worthwhile to teach monkeys how to read than to appease the masses through ill-contrived deception), the initial supposition is not being contradicted.

Might be wrong but Mclaren never got their shot at a last supersoft run, they went very early and both got caught in traffic iirc.

I don't think their Thursday pace will be truly indicative of where they will be come qualifying.

Did Monaco have catch fencing all around the circuit for the previous Grand Prix?

Looks quite tacky, like a US street race from the 80s. Certainly a solid safety step though and overall a needed improvement to the basic Monaco barriers

Apparently, he has been forced to use a chassis with some kind of fundamental flaw simply because Dallara have been unable to provide the team with a new and fixed one.

Except it was not Allen's analysis, he was only quoting Massa. Which means Massa was right.
