Loved the scenic shots of Monaco. Enjoyed the movie too.

Good timing to have the movie released right around the time of the real Monaco GP.

The action sequence of the Historic Grand Prix of Monaco had to be shot at the parking lot of the Downey Studios in California as though initially allowed to film at the Grand Prix circuit, Bernie Ecclestone retracted permission. By the time permission was retracted, one Rolls-Royce Phantom was sent there where driving sequence on the circuit was filmed.
No idea what kind of cars they used. A lot of CGI though.

They did the filming during the '09 Monaco grand prix apparently, they looked like some retro cars. It even said historique grand prix or some **** like that.
The Monaco Historic GP exists and is run every year, so no need to use swear words:

Bernie probably pulled the plug when it became apparent that shooting was going to spill over into the race program and interfere with the race. It's a pretty elaborate sequence, and probably not something that could be done in a single take. They were trying to but then they met a guy named Bernie:

Just saw the movie and was wondering what cars they used for the race in Iron Man 2? They looked great and sounded even better.
Six of the F1 cars that appear in the movie were on loan from Historic Grand Prix Association.

Well that's the odd thing. If Bernie actually did it because of the race program? They prepare the Monaco track like 2 weeks before F1 even gets there, or not? I thought the historic GP takes place weeks before F1, for that they need to prepare the track aswell. They didn't even need to shoot it during the F1 weekend, or the historic one. I don't think they remove the track preperations during those 2 weeks.Bernie probably pulled the plug when it became apparent that shooting was going to spill over into the race program and interfere with the race. It's a pretty elaborate sequence, and probably not something that could be done in a single take.

They likely would have only done the wide shots on location, all the others stuff would have been done on a lot.
The scenes looked pretty convincing at any rate. The tunnel shot looked very real.
Perhaps Bernie was concerned about branding issues, such as having F1 associated with a movie...there could be any number of reasons.
Bottom line.... they didn't need Bernie!

I would have liked to have seen a little more of the race before the villain took over. The look and feel of the shots were fantastic. That's what I want to see on the F1 broadcasts! LOL.
So you want to see F1 cars being whiplashed and thrown around, all of course with close up HD pictures?
Indeed, among the cars seemed to be a Lotus 76, a Fittipaldi, a Penske, the first Renault Turbo, the Ligier JS7 and the Ferrari 312T2. Most of the cars alienated with CGI.
