This coming weekend:

Phil Smart Pacific Northwest Historics Vintage races, Pacific Raceways, Kent, Washington, July 2-4, 2010

Apparently, Augie Pabst, the special guest, will be reunited with the ex-Mecom Lola Mk 6, which I believe is now owned by Bruce McCaw. Adrian Ratcliff is taking his Genie Mk 10 for display, which was driven by Pabst for Mecom in 1964 before Randy Hilton got it for Chuck Parsons in 1965.

Here is the link:

and the schedule:

"Oscarphone" said he will be there. Anybody else? Should we arrange a meeting place and time?

Right, Vince. I spent some time with Augie this past weekend at the June Sprints where he was the Grand Marshall. He is going to Kent this weekend for this event and will be the Grand Marshall there also. Bruce McCaw does indeed own the Lola Mk 6 which Augie drove for Mecom. You may recall that Augie had the scare of his life in this car at Riverside in Oct., 1964, when the brakes failed and the car went under the guard rail. The car stopped with the rail inches from Augie's head. It was that close. At any rate, the rebuilt car is to be demonstrated by Augie. Pabst is not particular looking forward to getting into the car as the years and the effects of that 1962 bone breaking Daytona crash have left Augie's bones decidedly creaky. In other words, he is not nearly as limber as he used to be.

As an aside, Pabst did one thundering exhibition lap this past Saturday at the June Sprints in the very Scarab in which he had won the June Sprints fifty years ago, in 1960. The fans loved it; heck, we all loved it!

Hi Vince, I'll be at Logan Gray's booth helping Martin Rudow hawk his book "Weekends of Glory" (GREAT history of sports car racing around Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia during the 60's.

I just got an email from Judy Pigott, one of Pat Pigott's daughters. She said that she and her brother Michael plan to come out on Saturday around 2:30. I said to meet at Logan Gray's booth. I hope to show them one or two Lotus 15s and Lotus 23s like their dad used to race. Could be an emotional time!

Had a great time today at the Historics - met tnf'r Mike Martin and some of the Pigott clan. Not sure if I ever saw Pat Piggot race but certainly knew of him. Tramped around the paddock for about 4 hrs. until my knee got tired. Manged to see most of my ground pounder friends. There were even a few real T/A cars. Eric was there with his Lola - still having some fuel problems.

Augie signed a photo for me of him in the Meister Brauser Scarab back in the day. I believe he was driving the Lola MK 6 today when the rear body work flew off down the top of the front straight - not sure what happened but that is a very fast part of the track.

I'm sure Mr. raceannouncer took many photos. The Sovren gang really does put on a first class event.

I took some photos, but my camera was overloaded when I wanted to take some others. I must remember to delete.

Yes, great to meet Mike Martin, and Mary, Judy, and Michael Pigott, Pat Pigott's daughters and son. They all got to meet Augie Pabst, who I believe raced against their dad in Formula Junior.

Byron Sanborn was driving the Lola Mk 6 today, not Augie Pabst. After he had Michael and Judy Pigott sit in a couple of Lotus 23s, Byron told us about his adventure with the Lola. He didn't know the rear bodywork had come off, till he came around under yellow, and saw a body panel on the track. He thought the Corvette guys had been up to mischief, but thought the panel looked strange for a Corvette. Finally realized what had happened.

I also just caught the end of a demo run by John Goodman in the ex-Ickx 1972 German GP winning Ferrari (the first GP I ever saw!)

Also, Augie Pabst signed Adrian Ratcliff's Genie.

Photos later, after I get home!

Can't wait to see the pics from the Pacific Raceways event. We were there in 08 and 09 with the Lotus. Great event, friendly staff, well run. Other vintage race groups should take note on how to partner with the community to present a professional event that is well attended by the general public. A comment about Byron Sanborn. Hell of a race driver and a great representitive for vintage racing and his business VRM. He went out of his way to assist a "rookie" (me) when I damaged my new toy. We will be there for sure in 2011.

Mary Pigott...in the second photo with Augie Pabst.

Judy and Michael Pigott...in the first photo with Martin Rudow (right)...in the last photo with Ted Boskovich, who owns the Lotus 18, and apparently has some photos of Pat Pigott. The gentleman in the background (don't know his name) has apparently been involved in the rewarding of the Pat Pigott Memorial Award.
