Following on from a lot of the opinions expressed in the BBC thread, several members were interested to understand how many of us feel Jonathan Legard's commentary is spoiling their viewing pleasure, or otherwise.

This is in no way a maliscious thread or one designed to assasinate any character.

It's merely to gauge the level or unhappiness of satisfaction in the current commentary.

Although many members have expressed their views directly to the BBC in writing, the responses have been vague and in some cases standard and generic.

Hopefully, a poll will be a good measure of the way hard core F1 fans from this forum and exposed to the BBC feel.

This can then be the basis of understanding the reach of any feeling across the UK and beyond, of seasoned fans and perhaps the casual viewer.

This can then be shared with the BBC directly

Thanks

The polling buttons appear to be a bit non-existant, rather like Legards talent as a commentator.

APologies, I'm a little rubbish at creating polls

Choices should be available now

Thanks

I think Legard is a below average commentator but I also believe that the need for the super amazing commentary people seem to assume getting rid of Legard would bring is way overblown, and above all else I think most of the people that hate Legard are whiny little bitches that just want something to complain about and if Legard was replaced they'd start whining about Brundle or someone else on the coverage team. Never ceases to amaze me how many people seem to go into a race just waiting for Legard to **** something up. **** happens, who gives a **** if he said Rosberg and then a second later corrected himself and said Schumacher, grow up and stop complaining about little things that don't really matter.

As for the actual poll question, no, he doesn't spoil anything. It's not like we're all inline for a 3-day full body orgasm every weekend and Legard is the only one standing in the way of that, people make mistakes and he's slowly but surely getting better, so just live with it.

Legard is here to stay so deal with it and stop going on and on about it. I watch a race and barely even notice him. He is not as bad as some people make out. I think no matter who they got next to Brundle people would complain.

If you don't like him switch to 5 live either by muting your TV and getting your radio, using the red button, or watching online - much much better

Frankly, half the contributors to this board take a perverse pleasure in Legard, just because they like to jump on the bandwagon and have a bash at him.

He doesn't spoil my enjoyment of the Grand Prix one bit. Oddly enough, I spend an hour and a half on a Sunday afternoon watching a race, not listening for grammatical slips by a commentator...

I simply don't understand this. James Allen was a cock and thank goodness is gone. Legard is perfectly adequate. I do not recognise any of the complaints that people keep making about him.

Is there someone better? Probably, but I do not think that anyone else would satisfy this crowd any more than JL does. People just seem determined to whinge about the race commentator whoever it be. Get over it.

You say Allen was a cock, and call us whingers?

The fact that Legard has turned Brundle into a shell of his former self in the commentary box is proof enough. I knew this for sure when both of them missed Button overtaking Alonso in Canada.

Thank goodness for 5live or you'd hear more about how much Legard sucks.

Yes. Legard lacks knowledge about the sport that is Formula 1 and it's obviously noticeable in his commentary. If there was an option to mute his microphone, I would use it.

This thread is not going to work, btw.

I'm Dutch and we have our own F1 broadcast, I however prefer the BBC and have watched all races on that channel this year.
It's not that our own coverage is that bad, the insights you get at the BBC make me enjoy F1 so much more.

I think we should be happy with what we get. And Legard is not spoiling my viewing pleasure in any way.

Oooh, a Yes/No poll where you can vote for both options! :rotfl:

He isn't a great commentator but I do wonder whether for some this is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. You go into the race expecting to be annoyed and therefore become much more annoyed than you normally would.

Very much so. It's what I would expect my Mum to be like commentating, getting excited over meaningless things while importing events are happening.

A simple google search for Jonathan Legard and looking at the drop down suggestions would show you what the public think.
